Hello from a newbie

Recommended Posts

Hello, new to the forum after lurking for a while so I thought I'd introduce myself!

Recently become a poo-sweeper, corn-distributor and general serf to four lovely ladies. Emmeline and Christabel are ISA Browns and Adela and Sylvia are Red Rangers.

We've had them since 2nd Jan - they were approx 20 weeks when we brought them back, and Emmeline and Christabel particularly have got bigger in the three weeks we've had them!

Vital stats:

Chickens: 4

Position in pecking order: somewhere below Emmeline who is Chicky Queen of the Universe (in her own eyes)

Poo swept: enough to almost fill a compost bin

Further compost bins ordered: 2

Eggs so far: 2 on the first day (one on the way home!), none during the snow, 8 in the last five days

Fox interest: declining now he knows he can't get in

Chicken terror on seeing fox: declining rapidly as they know he can't get in

Council interest in ridding neighbourhood of turbulent fox: zero

Neighbouring littles fascinated: 2

Neighbouring toddlers terrified: 2

Adults in household totally obsessed with chickens: 2

:D

Like your vital statistics! Welcome. Which part of the world are you in?

This forum is addictive. Lovely people though.

What did you do today?

I washed a chicken's bum and blow-dried her.

Oh great.

They all understand!

What, you too? So did I. She liked the blowdrying too.

Pics of the ladies:

Emmeline does the Funky Chicken:

Hello !

I just laughed out loud about the comment of zero interest from the council re foxes !

Very funny post

The council have just been a bit rubbish - I'm in Ealing, and the fox population is huge. I've lived in a number of London boroughs and there have always been urban foxes around but I've never come across this many.

I wrote to the council who responded saying that many people "were pleased to catch a glimpse of a wild animal in their street" which would be fine, but the marauding little beasts don't so much get 'glimpsed' as march in formation down the road staging a coup. They probably have the council in their pay.

Anyway, the ladies have calmed down a lot now they know that no fox can get in there, and ignore any that do come round. A friend of mine says his chickens got so brazen that they'll peck the fox's nose if he comes too close to the run!
