mumoffour
Hi am new to this so please bear with me. Have had my three girls for 18 months and have had no problems until a week ago. Now every time i go and let them out of their run one of the girls pecks my legs. she has always been the feisty one of the group. now it is making me reluctant to let them out. am not sure how to deal with her. any ideas? thanks
chickencam
I had this with one of my original Omlet Pepperpots. When I was hanging out the washing etc she would peck the back of my legs. I took to putting my hand on her back to make her crouch as a cockerel would do, to show who was in charge. She was just attention seeking and although she never completely stopped this did help a bit. Strangely she was my favourite because she had so much character and alas she passed on in the autumn last year.
ladyjulian
One of mine does this. It doesn't hurt so I'm not trying to stop her, although come summer and bare legs this could prove a mistake...
legend21
One of mine does it as well, she nipped by backside the other day it was a bit sore and like chickencam I quickly turned and pushed her down, but I think she wants to let me know she is the boss. BocBoc
Agnes pecks the backs of our knees - it doesn't hurt and we find it rather amusing so haven't stopped her - but like the above post, that might change come short-wearing weather!! Redwing
The hand on the back suggestion is a good one, that often works If I get one that comes at me I gently swoop it away with my leg
mumoffour
thanks for replies. she does give quite a peck - will try the hand on the back. deffinately want to stop it as i dont want her pecking the children.
Redwing
They are attracted to shiny things, just a thought but do you have trousers with zips/buttons on leg pockets or anything?
mumoffour
no just plain jeans / cords.
Redwing
Not that then, there have been a few stories about chooks going after nail varnish, rings, bracelets, shoes etc...

docsquid
Red Crocs boots attract mine - they will peck at my boots, but not any other shoes if I'm wearing them instead.
Egluntyne
I would wear wellies, and do as others suggest re making her submit to you. Like Tasha, I gently nudge mine away with my foot. They only tend to crowd me and be a bit enthusiastic if I am carrying food.
Valkyrie
Our naughty Squirt is pecking our hands and fingers. I can only assume she's having a bout of jealousy with the Eggy Babes being on the scene. She has been on the receiving end of some water splashing for bullying, so probably retaliating. PurpleTree
My Squeak pecks at my wellies, they've got little hearts and stars and things all over them, so I think she's just attracted to them. When we first had them she did peck fingers, she got both of the boys and made them bleed - their hands tended to be chicken head height. I normally have gloves on when I'm sorting them, so if she has a swift peck it doesn't bother me. Fingers crossed she's stopped going for the boys. If she does have a peck at my leg, I usually push her out of the way either with my hand or my foot. She's nearly tripped me over a few times too. mumoffour
she gets cross because we have fenced off part of the garden so we can have a poo free area! she is desperate to get through the gate. she attacks when i have my back to her to get through the gate. will see what happens tomorow.
