grracee
I've recently ordered a garden shed for the chooks so they can have a bigger home as the coop they are in at the moment is a little on the small size for all of them since i added the two buff orps. I got a 8 x 6 shed and hopefully fingers crossed it will be here sometime this week and i can start putting the perches in etc. What I wanted to ask was whats the best bedding to use? At the moment in my coop I just use hay but obviously having an 8 x 6 shed im not going to cover it in hay as it will be alot to use. Just wondering what everyone else uses? Thanks
Redwing
Shavings or some sort of horse bedding (Aubiose, Hemcore etc..) are the best options for a big space like that
Egluntyne
I'd reccommend Aubiose.
AmberSky
Hemcore is good, my favorite though has to be easybed though it can be hard to get hold of! I luckily snapped up 2 bales a few weeks ago but to make it last longer i am mixing it with shavings, though i would not advise shavings as they can be dusty, im trying to use them up as much as i can before the summer when there is more dust around. The shavings are so compacted in the bale though it seems to last for eons lol!
Gelbel
I am a Hemcore fan - been using it for a few months now and it so easy to use and keep clean. And I love the smell.
enpekt
We use Bedmax in the walk-in-run and Hemcore in the nest boxes, both obtained from our local mill that deals with products for horses.
Plum
Just to add to the choice, Easibed is a bit cheaper
Griffin
Another vote for Easibed
AmberSky
I know i have mentioned easybed already but i'll vote for it again, it just reeks quality and is far less messy than other bedding with no dust and absorbs poo easily!
grracee
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Looked a few of them up on the net, found that the easibed is in stock in my local countrywide so that might be the choice!
ewungelema
Hi Grracee! I've just got a long awaited WIR and went with hemcore (it's been down two days) it isn't as 'fly away' as wood shavings. It smells wonderful too, but I'm not sure if you're supposed to wet it........ the hens have been scratching around in it, sending waves of it all over! Come to think of it I am probably doing something wrong!!!! If you find out, please let me know p.s Thank you Redwing, the girls went to bed (after a 'no you go first', 'no, you go first' situation) iand have been great ever since, not missing the draughty old house
