whoopsie
Pets at Home in Charlton are holding an open evening on the 17th which includes chickens!! There is someone coming from the local city farm and she's bringing a small flock with her - I think they're going to be freeranging through the store from 7-9pm. There are also going to be representatives from the Celia Hammond Trust and vets on hand to give advice, plus they said there's 10% off purchases after 8pm. The flyer even says there's going to be a buffet! i'm going!

docsquid
Do they have any idea how much poo a small flock can generate? Should be interesting!
jellykelly
Our PAH are doing pet care courses for kids every day at 3pm next week. I don't know if this includes chickens, but will be taking the kids along to cause havoc. Everytime we go there I have to hunt for my 3 yr old. She's generally hiding in a kennel, crate or rabbit run somewhere!

Hope to meet you and Margaret there, perhaps - I am 5'2" and will be wearing a long red raincoat with hood.
Cranfield Kate
thanks for the tip! I'll be there too. also 5'2" but wearing 10 million layers of warm cycling gear and probably lugging a large pannier bag around. How exciting! whoopsie
Cameras at the ready!!!!! I spoke to one of the assistants (also a chicken lover it turns out) and she said she'd try and contact Omlet in case someone wanted to come and talk about urban chickens. There's a new PAH opening in Orpington soon and I wonder if they'll do anything. I think we should mention it!!! It sounds like it might be a bit of a bonkers evening - my favourite kind!! BTW it's £1 entry which goes to charity - pretty fair i'd say

Lewis
Do they have any idea how much poo a small flock can generate? Should be interesting! Last year Tamworth had 'kids classes' about guinea pigs etc. I thought I was a it old I think last time I went they just had a couple of feeders, no houses or feed. Haven't been for ages so don't know if they've jumped further on the chicken bandwagon?
whoopsie
Charlton seem to be quite keen on chooks - the range isn't bad and I don't think the prices are either. They do have a chicken house but it's nothiing like an eglu - maybe things will change......
LJ's Chooks
Nice of them to lay on a buffet, the chooks will love that!!!

hilda-and-evadne
Charlton seem to be quite keen on chooks. I do hope that the staff have the nous to ban dogs from that open evening. Usually, you can take in your pooch with you when you are shopping there but I certainly won't try to take my dog with me. Although he would love it, making chickens jump would be a fun variation on making the guinea pigs and baby rabbits jump (as we go past, and no, I don't encourage him to do this). Alis girls
Our local one has some cute guinea pigs - they squeal at meal times which i witnessed a few weeks back - I was amazed that something that looked like a toupee on legs was so noisey. I do hope they do a chuck one at Borehamwood

Margaret
Still hoping to go to Charlton tomorrow, only problem is its Ash Wednesday and should go to Mass.... Cranfield Kate
ignore what i said about tonight at blackheath. when i rang up I had this conversation: "PAH Charleton is having a chicken evening tomorrow, are you going to have one soon too?" "Oh we're having ours tonight" "oh really! oh that's great, much more convenient." "yes and the celia hammond people will be here too." great, think I, much nearer. so we decide to make an evening of it and book a car and all sorts. then my husband clls up to see if they have something in stock, mentions the chicken evening and has this conversation: "we're coming for your chicken evening tonight" "you can bring your dog" "we don't ghave a dog" "there'll be a dog fashion show and celia hammond and the greyhound trust" what about the chickens" "oh, no chickens AS SUCH" "any chickens AT ALL?" "no, it's nothing to do with chickens really" so don't go to blackheath tonight. unless your dog wants to enter the fashion show.

hilda-and-evadne
We need photos of chickens free ranging around PAH!? Yay, here you go - - and it was lovely to meet Margaret and Kate! Am glad I didn't take my dog (he's usually having his post-supper snooze at that time, anyway), as the dogs they were using to demonstrate training were three massive Alsatians that were starting to act up.
