Lavenders_Blue
Gosh I was expecting them to have Warrens, not Orpingtons (however there again, it is South London ) That's not an Orpie in the 3rd one down .....roundest beak I've ever seen if it is Sha x And there's a little black chicken in with the orps in the 2nd photo down. It only seems to have one neck feather Is it actually a naked neck, or is it some other kind of chook that has a naked neck for some reason? Or do my eyes need testing?! whoopsie
Ah those pics are so much better than the ones I took! I was quite shocked at the sight of the Naked Neck - I thought it had been abused/was an ex-batt of sorts! It was actually quite cute though and sat in my arms for quite a long fuss - didn't poo on me either! I think there might have been more chooks planned originally but Mudchute Farm had a fox attack and lost quite a few - including their Frizzle females, so I can't have one from them now One of the women there said that the Orpington branch of PAH should be opening soon, and hopefully they will have an event too. Seagazer
The Orpingtons look lovely, I've never seen one in real life. I'll keep an eye out for the Orpington branch opening.
Cranfield Kate
the Orps were VAST - I had no idea. and the little black naked things were most peculiar looking but then incredibly charming (i want them now). their black Hitler-esque hair dos made me laugh. It was a lot of fun and we ended up spending an hour in PAH and missing Argos, Staples and the toy store that we also needed to go to ( ) but i couldn't see why PAH had done it. it was a bit like a nice profile raiser for Mudchute farm and the charities but you'd have thought that with chicken gear to sell PAH would have wanted to be encouraging people to keep chickens. And lovely though the naked fellas were, I can see that your man on the clapham omnibus wouldn't be tempted... and the orps were just so big.... would have been nice to have some ex batts there and someone saying how easy it all is ( ) to encourage people to just do it. but then, I guess it was nice they just laid on some free entertainment with no agenda. good for them really! Seagazer
For all those local to the new Orpington PAH apparently soon Ruxley Garden Centre is going to be stocking chickens! Had a lovely chat with the men in the pet bit this morning and some of them are going off on a course on chicken keeping so I'll be able to get my new girls from in there. Margaret
Oohh Lovely, I spend most weekend at Ruxley, so even more reason to drag OH there, mind you they do do a very good breakfast, so quite easy to bribe him. +WIR Lavender Mable Marjorie Violet

Seagazer
I'm a bit vague on when but within the next couple of months I'm so excited, I've got plans to get a couple of new girls as mine are 2 years and don't always lay every day. I'll keep going up there and checking. They are going to have them out the back where all the fencing type stuff is.
Seagazer
I've just been up to Ruxley this morning for a tortoise lighitbulb and they have the chicken coops up and they are expecting the chickens to be delivered today!! The chap seemed a bit vague on the breeds they will have apart from saying they were hybrids and some are speckeldy I'm going to go back during the Easter holiday to have a look, okay I will probably be buying some during the holiday. The Dogmother
Our Pests at Home seems to have soem very flimsy looking coops out front no news so far as I have heard of them stocking chooks though.
Seagazer
I didn't get a close look at the ones at Ruxley but they seemed really, really tall but with not much floor space. I'll have a better look when I next go back. They were very busy and it was quite early so didn't like to pry too much.
The Dogmother
Our store had them outside when I drove past yesterday evening, I stopped to have a look... cheap Chinese imports of the sort that'll last one winter if you're lucky.
