Chook n Boo Mum
I went out to let my big feathered babies out of their run into the pouring rain...and they accepted the invitation ...........and noticed something moving in the red grub.......it was grey with a very long tail .....I maintained my composure & managed to speak to some newly arrived visiting children as though nothing was awry & continued my scan of the garden for a suitable weapon of destruction I located a hemcore sack....perfect.......re-entered the run & the little blighter was still stuffing it's little chops ....so I stuffed the holes with the sack...removed it from the run whilst shaking it hard to disorientate it at very least.............then wrapped the feeder & occupant into the sack & when it staggered out I used a half brick to finish the deed ......it's now awaiting removal by the bin men, still well wrapped in it's recycled hemcore sack/shroud.....I did remove the grub In some ways I feel sad, in others elated...a strange combo Sha x

Margaret
Rambo Sha Respect Well done you, hate them, are costing me a fortune OH has put down solid base for move of the WIR as they have burrowed under the concreat edge and wire. Cooks
so would my hubby, we've never seen one though, not to say they aren't there, but they dont poke their heads anywhere near us.. The two dogs probably put them off a bit though as one is a yorkie and if she got it she would shake it to an oblivion.. well thats the theory, she 'could' run inside and cower behind her mums legs

Redwing
I take it the visiting children didn't ask why you were bashing a sack with a brick? I heard they were the same kids that were at 'Mostins birthday party' in Sheffield last year so they were already immune to trauma

Chook n Boo Mum
I'm not sure they noticed....bless them, not the brightest buttons with "country matters" ....now had I mentioned nail varnish they'd have been all over me like a rash When I described the episode to DH he came back that it sounded like Tom & Jerry Clare, any time you are in the area Ruby is very welcome to come & entertain herself with the local population...my labs are terrified of them I have to say I do prefer the air rifle approach, but "hands on" was the only way this morning I've covered the base of the WIR with slabs & watched one of the little beasts slip in through between the back and side panels of the run at the weekend ......it's an ongoing battle that I am determined to win Does this mean my kind & friendly bubble has been burst forever........... Falkor
Yep....you will forever be the rat killer!!! But a lovely and friendly one! Could you put 1" x 1/2" mesh over the under cube run panels to stop the little blighters?
Cooks
I cant get my head around where they are getting in.... it's me being me, but I need an explanation..
Chook n Boo Mum
I cant get my head around where they are getting in.... it's me being me, but I need an explanation.. Look at where the lever locks in so you can move the cube...it was there that the little blighter snuck through.....I was gobsmacked I'll either wrap some small hole wire round the outside or wind some wire up between the 2 pieces to block the gap. Nats
Has to be done - nice one. We had a nest of the nasty's in our compost and had to deal with them in a similar fashion, not terribly pleasant but necessary. I couldn't have done it alone though! Very brave of you! I'm not keen on them at all, but am of the opinion that they're better off as deaders than botherign livestock.
Lavenders_Blue
Well done Sha As far as I am concerned the only good rat is a dead rat. We saw evidence of a rat in our garden before Christmas. Put a trap down but after a couple of weeks there was no evidence of the rat having returned or the bait being nibbled. We found out today that far from being gone, the rat (rats more probably ) is living in our neighbours garden where it has been feasting on spilled seed from their bird feeder and chicken carcasses that they have been putting out for the wild birds! Seriously, what kind of wild birds are they hoping to attract? Crows? Red kites? Thankfully they called the rat man in today.

Lavenders_Blue
I do hope so. No wonder we'd not seen it back in our garden with all that lovely food next door...
