What have you sown today?

Recommended Posts

I haven't sown anything yet  . I'm still thinking it's too early up here?

Can I ask what you all do with old compost from last years pots? Is it not worth saving or can you use it in raised beds and pots mixed with new compost and fertilizer?

I grow Chickens in it....

Well, thats what it looked like yesterday, as the chooks found last years grow bag in the bottom of the greenhouse, and dustbathed in it, in the sun for a good hour or so.

I right mess they made as well!

Otherwise, the rooty stuff gets put on compost heap, and the rest is tipped on the garden it there is room. Or worse case, it gets thrown if there is no room. I do put new compost in all the tubs at the start of each season - I find it gets better results, especially for veg.

Last year I only had one packet (cue miff again  ), but they made the best passata of all. So this year his lordship only wants that variety. One lot will be going outside and the others will be in the greenhouse. It's always a fight to get the first one - I sneaked in last year! Hopefully I will be able to do more this afternoon if it stays dry. Those parsnips keep glaring at me. :anxious:

Yesterday I actually got around to sowing my seeds after planting out my broad beans a week or so ago and so had more room...

Yesterday I sowed:

Oregano

Mint

Thyme (Orange scented and old english)

Parsley

Sage

Lemongrass

Kale

Peas

Out in the garden I've also sown some Californian Poppy seeds and some cornflowers.

Inside I currently have growing tomatoes and sweet peas.

Um, Christian - don't quite know how to say this . . . but Murray announced that he'd dug up and peeled the artichokes ready for dinner. I am soooo sorry. I hadn't told him I had the last plant earmarked for you. On the other hand there should be plenty of them next year - she says hopefully. Some of the ordinary ones are already shooting up - he says the stems are about 6 inches long - I planted them well down, knowing how well the girls excavate.

But I have sown beetroot, aubergines (the mini ones - worth it just for the nice little bushes), more peppers, peas and parsley and celeriac, ooh and celery, sprouts and some calabrese.

I have put in my "growbag potatoes" I haven't done well with these before but an old gardener told me to forget earthing up gradually and just split a growbag in two, position each half end up and plunge three chitted spuds ten inches down. So here goes.

I also planted "strange looking daffodil" seeds, Acacia seeds and two Argan tree seeds liberated during a holiday in Morocco :D:D

Runner beans are in Pot Noodle pots

kale, beetroot, chard, spinach, cauliflower, swede, butternut squash - and I am wondering what happened to my sweetcorn - oh I forgot to get some.

Absolutely baking in the greenhouse, and I've pricked out some tomatoes and bizzy lizzies.

Off to do some French beans now.

Also washed lots of seed trays and things - all drying in the sunshine. I on the other hand am still soaked.

Today I sowed French beans and runner beans in Rootrainers. Also some begonias and nasturtiums in the hanging baskets. My commercal grafted tomato plants arrived today too, so I potted them awaiting transfer into the greenhouse tomorrow. Lots of stuff is growing now, it's very exciting!
