Sue02
Just wondered if anybody can help - I have today lost the 2nd of my 3 ex batts so am left with one lonely girl ( I have had them 2 years the end of this week!) I had already registered for two ex batts from the Haslingden April rescue when I lost the 1st girl. It has been suggested that I get a bantam to keep my remaining girl company. When I went home at lunchtime she was in her coup and only came out briefly so I am worried they she may not come out for food and drink whilst i am at work. I would prefer to get a bantam from a rescue centre but if anybody knows of a reputable breeder in the North West that I can purchase a bird from quickly please let me know. Many thanks
Cranfield Kate
Little hen rescue say they always try and get someone a hen quickly if one is left alone - might be worth giving them a go?
tom123
Don't know of any breeders up your way but I think your best bet would be to either give the BHWT a call or call into your rescue centers to see if they have any chickens/bantams Good luck
Sue02
Hi - thank you for the quick response - I phoned little hen rescue who were very helpful and do have hens but unfortunately they are quite far away (I live in Manchester) - so she suggested ringing local rescue centres which I will do. sparkysmum
My ex batt Boris gets on really well with my new pekins Spotty & Dotty. She does give them a token "peck" from time to time but I don't think she has actually made contact. When OH went to lock them up for the night Boris was all snuggled up with a pekin who just happened to be in the big girls run Needless to say we took her out and popped her back in the pekin house with her sister Go for it & good luck. Sue02
Well I spoke to a lovely lady called Mel from Animals in Distress - a fantastic rescue centre in Littleborough. She very kindly has let me adopt a little white hen who I picked up Tuesday afternoon. I am happy to say that they are getting on really well and there has been no pecking at all - its as though they have been together for ever and my ex batt is so much happier and is now happily eating and wondering around the garden again with her new friend . If anyone is ever in the unfortunate situation that I was in whereby they end up having a chicken on their own - it really is worth ringing around local animal sanctuaries.
