LuckyChickenLover-
I'm pararnoid right now. There are so many foxes in my area and they're intent on getting my chooks. Every day when I go outside to let the chooks out, you can smell that the foxes have been there. It smells discusing, and there are fox pee stains on the Eglu . Two days ago I noticed that there were brown smears on the door of the Eglu, and I asume that a fox with dirty paws was trying to paw open the door. And, last night I heard a fox...and it sounded horrible, like a kid screaming. I covered the door of the Eglu with a double layer of chicken wire (it's only temporary, and I move it away in the daytime, but the more protection I have against foxes the better, right?) uuuhhh... is there anything else I can do to keep the chooks away, (and yes, I have gotten people to pee round the garden )? Thanks ~ Lucky Chicken Lover
Egluntyne
Your best bet is to protect them with an electric fence.
chickyhazel
Electric fences are good. At least none of your chickens have been taken - that means he hasn't figured out the eglu yet.
sandyhas3chucks
WIR and a fox watch. Also a suitcase strap right under the Eglu Belly and over the door. Can you cover the whole eglu with something so it cannot be scratching at the Eglu as well. Like a wire mesh enclosure 3 sides and roof covering right up to the run. If that makes sense You are right to be paranoid, it WILL keep coming back looking for any weakness.
Alis girls
They are fox proof arent they. I have yet to see a fox in my garden but we have tent pegged skirt of Eglu and are around when the girls free range. We have a couple of cats who are around a lot too but I know they would be no match for a fox - although he doesnt know that

My suggests are more for the thoughts of poor girls if a fox is climbing over their Eglu sniffing and scratching, and for piece of mind and sleeping better
ISCA
I would not say they are fox PROOF. Their design supposidly makes them difficult for a fox to gain entry but a determined fox will be persistent, and there is always a possibility they could gain entry to the run/ house. I may be wrong but I thought I had read of a fox that gained entry into an Eglu on this forum, but I am not certain. The plastic hen housing is certainly one of the better options at deterring Monsieur Reynard. I think electric netting is the best deterrent overall for an urban back garden. Dogs also, but they will not be in your garden 24/7.
sandyhas3chucks
like ISCA I "think" but not sure that the postings of foxes getting into the Eglu, are through NOT closed doors at night! Often with the pins either missing and not replaced with anything secure or replaced with a bit of wood. (on the run door)
