Lost my voice!

Recommended Posts

Tuesday I had a fever which subsided on Thursday, no sore throat, but left me with no voice!

I can't say anything, and held up notes at work this morning! Everyone made fun of me & I couldn't say anything back!

Then I couldn't answer the phone, because I can't speak enough to explain I've lost my voice! I had missed a call which I knew was important, so made every effort to squeeze a few words out (but mustn't, it makes it worse, and strains the vocal chords).

I then had to pass on the message to my son, but couldn't phone him, so went to his work, it was urgent, and gave him a piece of paper!

LSH thinks it's bliss & funny, sons think it's a mighty relief and funny, and daughters are really kind and understanding (but think it's funny).

Apparently I look like Stan Laurel trying to gesture my meanings!

I find I can't keep up when I write messages whilst voiceless...the conversation carries on around me & it's like the gap in telephone conversations from Australia....but worse :(

You have my utmost sympathy Sheila, I've been there more times than I care to remember

One time we were out at a restaurant with DS's eldest daughter & then fiance.......my DS is partially deaf so can lipread fairly well.....he became my spokesperson for the evening :D

I don't have a magic cure, but you're right, don't strain it...apart from anything else you'll end up with a headache which doesn't help matters :anxious: I hope it rights itself soon

I lost my voice just over a month ago - took it a whole month to come back properly - think that's the longest I've ever had laryngitis. Something I do seem to have a weakness for. However there is one very important sign that is special for your husband or anyone else getting on your nerves. The Agincourt Salute. It was used many a time during my throaty spell. Of course singing is out of the question, but when it starts to come back I suggest Bonnie Tyler CD to join in with so that "Ooops, word censored!"ody notices.

Hope recovery is speedier for you, Teasy.

Sorry Christian - I know how you feel - should start coming out of it now - and then the cough starts. 1.gif I broke my tooth (on egg on toast  ) but I have had to wait for the cough to go before I make an appointment. Nearly gone now. Murray is the only one in the household not to get the lurgy. Started with Ciaran who didn't lose his voice, next me and then Erin and she fared quite well. I wondered if it was because I had my tonsils out that it took longer to go. 3rd week you are gravelly and then it starts to come back by the 4th. Bottoms bottoms bottoms to the germs I say.

Mine started with tonsilitis on the 01st of May. Antibiotics for a week and felt better. Then the Laryngitis kicked in. 10 days of antib's (on day 7 now) and still exhausted. Can't do anything without having to sit down for a bit. Voice is back :D:clap::clap:

Sheila is quiet.......you ok m'dear?
