stehaggan
Just wanted to share that my WIR is standing and I'm so proud. It's 3.2m x 4m and looks ace even if I fo say so myself. If anyone is considering making one, I'd recommend it, materials cost approx £200 whereas I got quoted £550 for one to be made for me which was smaller and the wood used would have been thinner. Going to b and q later for the roofing then the arrives on Thursday yay!! Pictures to be posted soon.

stehaggan
Ok eager beavers, here are some pictures...its not quite finished yet though, I need to mesh the roof put on some tarpaulin or something for shade/shelter also need to add a bit more mesh to the doors to make more mr fox proof, also need the and chooks to arrive... Main structure Internal (nice and tidy at the moment) soon to be messed up, hard wood chip, some turf and some slate for different textures and to scratch around in. Long side view of the plot including chicken run - as you can see lots of veg beds for the chickens to prepare at the end of the year hehe. If anyone has any ideas to improve it please let me know so I can amend it before the chooks arrive... the underneath has paving stones, and a double layer of weldmesh all underneath the flooring to keep mr fox out... When it is all finished, we will put a full photo album from start to finish so you can all see how it developed (including chickens)
Plum
You did all that Love the idea of different textures, I was thinking of doing something along those lines but not nearly as artistically as you have. Well done
stehaggan
yes hehe, it took 2 days to make all the frames then about 5 hours to put it all up.. we're very proud - i've never actually built anything before. I cant wait to get the cube and the chickens in there now do you like my little "eggs" sign over the door? haha

Olly
wow - it looks fabulous! I don't think the turf, slate etc will last long once your chooks are in, but they'll have a fabulous time kicking it all about.

stehaggan
Hi guys, thank you all for your comments, whilst im on the DIY run how do i make a dustbath? I have some decking left over so could use that as the frame for it but any ideas on the depth, length etc and what to fill it with? I cant really find the info anywhere. Hopefully i can get the roof and dustbath finished prior to my arriving on thursday and then hopefully go and pick up the chooks @ the weekend. Tutti Frutti
My chooks are happy to dustbathe in anything! They use plant tubs (some dustbathe and the others perch on the edge and watch intently ), small and large trugs, a 9 inch deep hole they've dug by the shed , and also an Ikea underbed storage box in their run which is 70cm x 70cm and fits 4 in fine Some people use old tyres. As for content - compost, soil, ash from the chiminea/bbq, play sand and DE (diatomaceous earth sp - good for killing any mites).
