BeckyBoo
....yesterday evening my neighbour found a stray cat in the road where she was working. It was in an appalling physical state so she picked it up and brought it home. Unfortunately her Staffie only likes cats as a mid morning snack so she asked me to look after it. Initially I put it in a basket and called the RSPCA who said they would collect it. After 4 1/2 hours and at 23.30 I gave up and rang and cancelled them, I was also having serious second thoughts as I thought they'd take one look at it and put it to sleep It's a very very manky, partially bald, matted, skeletal grey thing that started life as a Persian cat. Anyway, to cut a very long story short I ended up taking it to the local vet. He wasn't there but his nurse was and her first words as this poor thing lurched out of the cat basket were that it had to be put to sleep there and then. Turns out he/she (can't tell - too matted on its behind) is probably very old, more than likely blind in one eye, has one tooth, is skeletal (weighs about 3lb) and it's fur, such that it has on its back end, is hanging off in clumps. But because I'm gobby, I refused to let her So she rang the vet and agreed to keep it in until the vet could see it tonight. Well he's been out now, and, following a 4 page text from me pleading for it to be given a chance I've just had a text from him saying "cat doing fine, seems happy and comfortable, has been eating and to the toilet, will apply drops and wait til Tuesday!" So, not out of the woods as Cat-Thing, as it has been named, has been through a lot and it could still go either way. Thing is, when the vet tried to listen to it's stomach she couldn't hear because the darned thing wouldn't stop purring here's some pictures of Cat-thing - sorry if you're on Facebook and have already seen them Oh yes, and provided the owner can't be found (which I am selfishly hoping ) he/she/it is coming home to us BeckyBoo
Tutti Frutti
Aww Cat Thing looks lovely! Lucky her/him and lucky you to have found each other But poor thing, been through the mill and back but you're there to help him/her through One of my 3 cats is blind - detached retina caused by high blood pressure (she's on medication for that), which was in turn caused by kidney failure so she's also on a special renal diet. It's working, she has days when she can see and has put on a ton of weight So... there's hope for Cat-Thing yet
Groovychook
Ahh, poor thing... fingers crossed for Cat-thing!! Well done you for being so determined! Fingers crossed for a happy outcome!
Olly
wow - good for you, Becky. I hope Cat-Thing recovers to enjoy a happy retirement with you, doesn't sound as if he's had an easy life, but I bet he will reward you with lots of love and affection. S/he may be old, toothless and blind but provided there's no major underlying problem, a bit of TLC and a proper diet can work wonders. to you, and fingers crossed for good news next week. Egluntyne
Crikey. Who could leave a cat in that state? No sign of a microchip I suppose? Well done Becky. I hope s/he perks up.
Laura & CTB
Ah well done Becky - what a fantastic thing to do - I do hope the poor wee thing perks up and you get the outcome you want. Please let us know how you get on.
Tutti Frutti
How is Cat-Thing today? I meant to say, some people will instantly say PTS as the cat can be incontinent (kidney problems) and also, mess (because of the blindness!) but the diet has really helped our girl to wee less and also, a nightlight by a high walled, FLOURESCENT PINK litter tray helps her to find her way in the dark. She was struggling to find her way into the litter tray with the lid and cat flap and, if she did, would get disorientated, wee up the cat flap then emerge some time later with a wet head So, we've put the new tray next to the old one, bought an off cut of lino so it comes up the side of the hallway walls to catch any, um, spillage and then line the lino with lots of newspaper... just in case All quite manageable and easy to clean up and she's very happy
Seagazer
Oh bless! It does look a bit sorry for itself. I hope that it all turns out well in the end for you. I have to say that my cousin's persian cat used to look like that (except she was a cream colour) when she'd had to go to the vets to be clipped as they couldn't brush her. Poor thing.
