craftyhunnypie Posted June 16, 2010 Share Posted June 16, 2010 I know I come on here moaning about my hair a lot but it is truly a state again! I had it done about 7 weeks ago - coloured, cut & blow. I have it almost black, long & layered. The colour was only put on the roots & now it is two tone sort of yukky chestnut, with reddish colours in it in certain light. It has also been hacked at & the layers are terrible. The last 3 to 4 inches are extremely dry - no matter what I use on my hair ( normally good Tigi products). I am not a happy bunny at all & will not go back that hairdressers. I changed hairdressers a bit ago remember? So now I have booked to have my hair done in Aberystwyth, whilst on my hols. I can't wait! I'm going Kim Rees hair studio - anyone know of it? I'm very excited - daft aren't I. However, I'm thinking it might be best to have a good 3 - 4 inches lopped of it & start again. Let the layers grow out & get it in good condition. I will be a bit upset, but would sooner have nice looking healthy hair - cut into my neck in a sort of very longish bob. What do you think? patsylabrador Posted June 17, 2010 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Hairdressers never seemed to listen to me so I gave up on them about 15 years ago. Since then I henna my hair and cut it myself. I've become quite proficient at cutting in the kind of layers I want and it's a lot cheaper. I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out and I have to say that my hair is in excellent condition. She talked me out of pink highlights telling me it was the menopause and I would be weeping on her doorstep begging her to remove them I have think dark blond highlighted hair with those infernal grey ones that PING up. Underneath the colour I suspect I am a badger Went grey in 30's after mum died and had PND with 1st child. Once the hair is that dry at the ends, I think the only way to go is to remove it and start again. I don't think it matters what product you use by that point! I am a Hair Dressers Dream though - I go in and say "cut it". They ask how, and I shrug. I figure whats the worse thing that could happen? It will always grow back! And I just hope they will use their professional judgement to cut my hair in a way that will suit me and my hair. Doesn't always work.... But it does always grow out again! Its taken me years to find my lovely hairdresser, she can cope with my untameable mop and doesn't try to get my hair to do things it doesn't want to ( thank heavens it's trendy to have artfully disorganised hair). When she went on maternity leave she left strict instructions with her 'stand in' to only snip off the ends and not to attempt to do anything else with it LMW has a right mop of hair too, she is off to the hairdressers after school. My hairdresser wasn't available to do LMW hair but has promised to brief the poor soul who has to tackle LMW's hair Costs me a fortune to have LMW hair done as the only way it can be tackled is after it's been washed (damping it down just doesn't work!) I put purple streaks in mine first and then onto pink, they fade with time from cerise to baby pink....I'm contemplaing blue next!! I love them! chickweed Posted June 17, 2010 Share Posted June 17, 2010 No amount of products will repair the damaged ends so I think you are sensible to go for a shorter style. Hair grows faster in warm weather apparantly, so you could have longer hair in no time. You might even prefer it short once you are used to it. I love my long hair & it was lovely when I was on holiday in February - black, shiny & just like Cleopatra. However, it went down hill from there, with the hairdresser putting all these yukky layers in. Grrrr. I'm thinking maybe a mid length / longish bob style. I'm quite nervous. I've asked hubby to pick out a few styles he likes - so as I can see what sort of thing he's expecting me to look like. I don't want to come out the hairdressers & shock him too much! I've had red in my black hair in the past - but it soon faded to orangey. I've also had cerise pink D.I.Y. That was cool for a while. But now I just want shiny, black, classy looking hair. As you can see - it will go curly or straight. It's easy hair to manage - but it's now been cut wrong & is a horrid colour! So Madame Cinnamon - what does one recommend? He he. bluekarin Posted June 17, 2010 Share Posted June 17, 2010 I have huge problems with my hair. When I was younger it was poker straight, but I always wanted curly locks, so I had it permed quite often. I had this done every couple of years until my YD was born (shes 10 now) when I had my final all over perm and thought, nope, not having it done again as it wrecked my hair. I then started to straighten it, thinking this would be easier as my hair wants to be straight, but always had problems doing the back of my hair. I then had it cut a few years ago at a new hairdressers, and found out I have a natural curl in a large triangular patch at the back of my head. No wonder it was a pain to straighten. So I now have two heads of hair on my head. Straight hair at the front and curly at the back I have long layers put into it as this seems to help keep a bit of curl at the front. When I have it cut, I usually have about 4 inches chopped off. Last time, I thought I'd be daring and have it cut to almost shoulder length and it felt good. Very light, quite bouncy. I need it chopping again. One of my gripes with hairdressers is they can never dry my hair properly. Or, I should say, in all the years I've had it blow dry, I've only been totally pleased at the end twice. But, going back to your hair, I think a bob would look fab on you. Maybe get it cut as short as you feel comfortable with, so you start to get rid of your layers, and very soon, all the layers will be gone. I got fed up with the roots problem & the drying effects of blonde. I much prefer it dark until I go grey - then it may have to go back blondeish, as I don't like to see grey partings. I'm starting to chicken out of my hair a bit - we reckon I might only have to lose maximum of 3 inches. Still thinking about a long bob though. Had an assymetrical bob once & had it red / Auburn. It's like a bob with long bits at the back. His description of the front is ' like a church window'. Don't ask! To me it's like a mod haircut & I like it! If anyone can find any pics of this sort of 'do' for me to take with me to the hairdressers, it will be greatly appreciated. You have a good idea how your hair is, the way it falls etc so you'll get an idea. What about hair magazines? I saw a hairstyle in a magazine advert that I took an instant liking to. I have taken the decision to grow out my fringe and have my hair slightly longer. Saw the first grey streaks in it today (they have usually been underneath) not sure what to do as I've never dyed my hair and don't want to start. sadietoo Posted June 19, 2010 Share Posted June 19, 2010 My mother's family originates from Gateshead and we always joke that I have hair from the North East...it's extremely thick and designed to keep me warm through the long cold winters To compound my extremely thick hair I pulled out my first grey hairs at 14....so I am completely (well apart from an annoying bit at the back) grey now. At last however I have found a hairdresser that can deal with my hair. What I ask is for a hairstyle that can be finger dried..ie no fancy lotions or potions..that way I am working with what I have rather than what I don't have... To me the test of a good hairdresser is that they don't have to use a multitude of products on your hair to achieve a result...a good cut is all you need... And to all you ladies out there fighting the grey what about giving in gracefully... more and more of us are now and it can look completely stunning.... Courage!! If however your greys "ping" up andyou have the frizz like moi - sorry it will look awful thats why i stay blonde. Some ladies carry it off and great - some cant.
