some good vibes please.....prolapse

Recommended Posts

Me and DH are beginning to lose the plot :(

We've had a rocky few months with the chooks. We had to have Hazel PTS because of a prolaspe :( Margot didn't wake up last week :(:(:(:( These were 2 of our orginal 6 girls.

Tonight when doing the last check Polly was in the broody cage. Maisie appears to be doing the broody thing in the eglu after she's been fine all day, and hasn't been broody for a month, the first in ages.

Then we looked in the cube and Harriet has the most enormous prolaspe :(:(:(:(:(:( bigger than Hazels was.

I've turfed Polly out of her cage, so she is in broody heaven in the nest box and put Harriet in the cage as i'm worried the others will peck her badly should it come back out (i've just pushed it back in).

She is making odd noises which I am assuming are telling me that she's uncomfortable.

I am worried big time. She's a lovely hen that's been bald for the last 18mths and has just grown all her lovely feathers back.....

Is it just an age thing? Are we doing it wrong?

I am trying not to sound whingy, but I am dreading the consequences tomorrow.....

Ohhh, Quickcluck, my heart goes out to you. A couple of months ago we went through a bad patch with our girls and I wondered if it was something I was doing wrong :( We lost our little Black Rock, Nugget to a prolapse, I don't want to be the bringer of bad tidings but Prolapses very rarely have good results. I hope with all my heart your little hen makes it through, I would dearly love to see a post from you saying all is well and she is fine. But, at the end of the day, it is something that is beyond your control, these things happen and you're not doing things wrong so please don't beat yourself up over things. I am thinking of you and your little girl today and hoping things go well.

Well sorry guys, I can't reduce it on my own :(:( It's the size of the palm of my hand, so have made an appointment at the vet.........

I really can't believe it, she's been poorly so many times and made miraculous recoveries. She is looking perfect at the moment, as it's the first time she's had feathers in over a year, and she a good weight as she is normally a skinny minny.

I am beside myself already......

It's a hateful, hateful day

I once saw an article about a lady chicken keeper that made a kind of sling from bandage which held the prolapse in long enough to give it time to heal. She made a little gap to enable the chicken to poo ok and I think it made a full recovery, but that is the only one I have heard of. :(

It's wasn't good news, we are devastated. By poor husband went on his own as I couldn't face it again. I took the easy option and took the dog to his vet.....

The vet did say we have been very unlucky, he was feeling for us, but agreed it was huge so no choice :(:(:(:(

We are very watery here tonight......

Thanks everyone for you good vibes tho, it's been great support....
