the-real-tinkerbell
i lost my first girl today i feel really heartbroken i cryed my eyes out and really dont know how to tell my kids she hasnt laid for a few days but was perky and bright ,then yesterday she was hunched up but i thought she had a softie on the way so i left her to it .big mistake when i went out this morning she was half hanging out of the cube and i thought she had passed away , but when i got to her she was still breathing , she couldnt hold her weight or move she had no intrest in food or corn i brought her in to the kitchen and looked her over and she had what looked like egg all over her knickers ,she passed away in my arms about 20 mins later . does anyone have any idea what could of happened to my beautifull bluebelle , she was the moodiest chicken you would ever meet ,her name was pie because of chicken run ,i have another hen called gravy and pie used to pick on her ,so my son said i dont want to be a pie i dont like gravy and it just sort of stuck, she will be greatly missed the others are looking for her as she was the mother hen and to be sure the boss . i cant believe how hard its hit me

sewitall
Sorry to hear your sad news. You must be feeling awful. If only they didn't go downhill so quickly - it often seems that you don't get a chance to do anything for them.

koo2cat
We lost our first hen this year and she was also top hen and a real character. It still feels strange without her but I'm sure in time we'll get used to it! Margot's death was also unexplained really. She just stopped eating and drinking, became weak and that was that really. Hope you feel better soon!
