NorthernBird
Bruce is so cool. I love friendly fish that come to the front of the tank when you talk to them. I'm not completely bonkers, I did read somewhere that fish can distinguish between voices and will come to the front of the tank to greet people they like and ignore those they don't. With regards to their swim bladder problems we've found that when our fish get constipated this tends to agrivate the situation and have found that feeding them peas helps. You just put the peas in boiling water for 1min then pop them out of their skins and chop them into bite size pieces. Our fish love it but it does turn their poo pea grean!! theherd123
So glad you like Bruce! Will have to try the pea thing but how on earth do you know if a fish is constipated?

NorthernBird
When ours are having issues the seem to just 'hang' in the water, usually near the top of the tank and when they do try to swim any deeper they get half way down the tank and just float back up again. It's like with any pet you have, you just get to know them and you can tell that there is something wrong. We've got a calico telescope eye and he will quite happily spend half an hour floating on his back at the top of the tank, when he first started doing it we thought he was going to get the 21 flush salute, but a year later we've come to realise that it's just something that he does cos apart from that he spends the rest of the day happily swimming around with his mates
theherd123
Well unfortunatley Bruce and Bob are no more We came home from work this evening to find they had died and we cannot think why as they seemed to be doing so well. We have buried them next to the apple tree in the garden. A sample of water was taken and tested at the aquatics centre we got them from and they could find nothing wrong with it - all within parameters needed for healthy fish.
