Will we need the roof rack?

Recommended Posts

OH and I are going to collect my ebay (cube blue) and run tomorrow in his Volvo 740 estate. We've been promised that it will be dismantled ( :?: what would be most useful tools to take in case that hasn't happened?) but I'm suddenly fretting about whether it will all get into the car, as I THINK (advert was a bit obscure but price amazing) that we're getting a run extension too...

Any thoughts, you lovely omleteers? We DO have a roof rack, but I need to remind OH to bring it home from his workshop on the far side of the county if we're going to take it...

Hi goodinparts, am afraid I don't know how big a Volvo 740 estate is, but I imagine if you have 1.2mx1.2m space in the boot, then the run and Cube parts should be able to stack in. (Though it's probably better to have the roof rack and not need it than to find you can't squeeze that last panel in...)

I near-dismantled my Cube yesterday to separate it from my run, and only needed a Philips screwdriver (with a wide big head) for the Cube itself, a flat screwdriver for the run clips and a plastic tub for the bits and bobs. A pair of scissors may also be handy if any cable ties are involved (they were with mine!).

The lovely lady who was selling had persuaded her OH to dismantle the whole thing...it was all waiting, stacked neatly by their garage when we got there. And it ALL fitted into the Volvo most beautifully and is now waiting on our patio to be reassembled. :D

Sadly that won't happen now til next w'end, as I'm up to my ears in vicaring tomorrow and then we're away on our narrowboat for a few days...but the girls came and had a good look at it while FRing this afternoon, and seem to approve. It's HUGE isn't it...I knew really, but but it looks bigger here at home than it did at Cotswold Chickens. My three girls will have so much space - not sure if I'll last til the spring before getting my faverolles....

So now I'm singing the happy chicken lady song (while waiting for the men in white coats to come and take me away ;)

I have cube...a beautiful blue cube (cube blue) .... :D

Congratulations on your cube - the blue ones are very nice :D

I know a breeder of good quality Faverolles in Bicester if thats any use? its a good time of year to get some as breeders will be choosing their show/breeding stock and selling off the rest

:D

"if that's any use..." says Redwing, innocently! :!:

Oh how exciting.

I'd got used to the idea that I couldn't have new girls til spring time, but now Lewis has planted the idea that it might be really quite easy to do intro's if my existing ladies are new to the cube ...I think (twitter only having 140 characters I may have got this wrong) that he suggested that I might simply be able to put my 3 plus 2 newbies all in together when moving into cube day comes....as it will feel like neutral territory for all of them.

What do others think of this idea? It would be REALLY wonderful to have some more girls soon - but if it's going to be a question of careful, slow intros then I fear that had better wait til days start getting longer again, as I'm out too much to be a useful supervisor atm....

But I'd love to know a source of faverolles ...thought I;'d go for either a Buff or Speckled Sussex or possibly a Buff Orpington too at this stage. Would the Orp cope with the cube ladder?? Just 2 more girls, as though the cube could clearly take more they don't get unlimited FR time, and I've only got one extension to the run atm (this could change of course)

Thoughts, advice or temptations all very welcome (but I'm away this week, so won't get to read your brilliant ideas til the w'end)

Worrying about leaving my girls already :anxious: . Last time I was off, my daughter hen sat but this time it's the lovely girls down the road, who will do a great job I know (they've cat sat many a time) but.......you know........kind of wish i could take the girls with me to the narrowboat. When i retire and live on it, I'm having an eglu on the roof! :D

:whistle::angel:

It think I'd be a lot easier to intro new girls to the existing with the new cube - obviously still need to keep an eye on them to be sure but they'd all be new to the space so no existing pecking order.

Darker mornings would probably be good for you 'cos you wouldn't have to get up really early to check them :)

Orp would be fine with the ladder 8)

Think I'd better wait til (cube blue) is assembled before changing my signature...(it's still in bits on the patio)...or the girls will complain.

but Goodness :!::!: . I may be only a few days away from some new girls. That's amazingly exciting :D

Now, where to go? MUST have one faverolle, don't mind if the other is Sussex or Orp (chicken maths might come into play here, if I can find somewhere that has all three... )

Happy to drive a fair way (well, up to an hour and a half I guess) if anyone can recommend somewhere that might have them all this late in the year...

But I'll NEVER get away to the narrow boat if i keep on getting distracted by chicken talk. Parish magazine articles to write before I can go. And I ought to pack too, really!
