Chickvic
This is a bit of an odd request but here goes we have just re-done our stairs and are now putting a bannister up, we never had one before it's just a straight up flight of stairs no bends etc. Which side do you have your bannister on as you go up the stairs? I think it should be on the right but my DH thinks it should be on the left (easier wall to drill into!) So your opinions please
Lesley
erm......I had to have both after my knee problem.....sorry, can't help here.
Lewis
As you go up the stairs ours is on the right 'Spose it dun't matter too much?
Lesley
As you go up the stairs ours is on the right 'Spose it dun't matter too much? It does if you're old and crocked
Charlottechicken
When you go up and downstairs on your bottom, that's when you are old and crocked
Chickvic
As you go up the stairs ours is on the right 'Spose it dun't matter too much? No it doesn't matter - we were just wondering what everyone else had
BarbaraJ
We have 2 but if we had one it would be on the right
Charlottechicken
As you go up my stairs the bannister is on the left. There is a turn at the bottom of the stairs so the bannister is on the side you can reach, and goes around the turn.
Redwing
Mine is on the right My father in law comes down the stairs backwards so he can hold on to the bannister with his right hand going up and down the stairs
Looney
Ours is on the left as you go up the stairs. It couldn't go on the other side as the staircase has walls on both sides apart from the top section on the right which is a landing banister/rail type-thing (technical lingo there! )
SarahJo
Ours is on the left - like yours, a continual no bends affair. Could not imagine it being on the right, but then thats habit and what you get used to.
abwsco
Depends on the position of your stairs surely Ours have a wall on the left handside so our bannister is on the right.
Cinnamon
This will just confuse matters, but ours is on the right from the top til halfway down, then is on the left. Its just the way the house is built.....
Plum
Mine is on the right My father in law comes down the stairs backwards so he can hold on to the bannister with his right hand going up and down the stairs Think I know what you could give him for Christmas
Egluntyne
I suppose whether you are right or left handed might affect your choice. It is on the left at Egluntyne Towers, but on the right in my daughter's house.
Patricia W
Aren't there building regs about it? I'm with Leslie though - we have both sides for my dodgy knees!
Chickvic
Thought I'd post a pic of the final decision It went on the left because it was much easier to drill into!
