My local garden centre is selling 1kg dried mealworms for 19.99 . Is that a bargain ? I thought it might make a nice Christmas present for them

I get mine a few 'chick and mix' pots of mixed dried critters every now and then, they're not too expensive if you only feed them as treats.

We pay about £7 for 500g live mealworms delivered each month. Live Foods Direct, I think. The package has a sticker on that says "Urgent - Live Biological Material" - our Postie says she doesn't want to know what's inside the packet! And the mealworms have their own food too! And they like carrots ....

I pay £1.99 for a 100g tub from Home Bargains, so that is comparable.

 

I only buy about three pots of mealworms a year as I don't have many hens and feel I would feed too many if I bought in bulk! Besides, I use the 'shake the mealworm tub' method to round them up sometimes and I don't want them to get too used to them

I just bought a 3.5 kg pot of mixed grains and dried insects for around £15 incl postage, and they love that. The dried mealworms on their own is really expensive!

I found the ad in my poultry magazine. http://www.naturesgrub.co.uk. My mix was called Chicken seed & Insect Mix. They love it, but I'm quite mean with it Special treat only!

I agree, they are the cheapest I've found too, and the service is fantastic. In fact I ordered some on Monday this week, and they arrived on Tuesday

They arrived the day after I ordered them and the company even emailed me with an expected delivery time too which I thought was nice

mine don't really like mealworm - unlike the starlings in spring but ADORE tinned sweat corn - are they odd
