The Weather Thread # 6

We just had an absolutly Biblical hail storm here, accompanied by thunder & lightning too.

It went on for about 15 minuted, with some hailstones the size of marbles

Very, very scary - just glad I got myself in from the greenhouse in time!

The garden looked like it had just snowed afterwards......I have honestly never experienced a hailstorm like this before!

Just been out for a quick damage assessment.

It has stripped the flowers from a few primulas I had on the patio & the ground is totally sodden - great flooded puddles everywhere, but luckily no damage to the greenhouse or hen pen.

I think it was very isolated as my daughter didn't get it 3 miles one way & Henley seemed to miss it a few miles the other!

Cold, windy and raining very hard :( I got drenched pushing my ED to school in her wheelchair. My raincoat is just not long enough. Combined with the rain and moisturiser going into my eyes and blinding me, it was not the most fun walk to school. Now looking for a new coat

Lashing down here too, also very windy, we have been watching a blackbird building her nest over the past week, at the top of our beech hedge where there is a lovely rose growing through it, we have really been feeling for her today, I can't believe that it will still be intact, there is nothing between the hedge and the strong easterly winds. :(

We had a lovely day here too yesterday, and despite having a throat infection I went outside and planted lettuce plants, summer bulbs and some more radishes. I forgot to put slug pellets down though, so I am wondering how many lettuces I still have. :anxious:

That's what I'm hoping for, I don't mind falling asleep to the sound of rain.

After the biblical deluge we had yesterday, there was marginally less rain today and it was warmer, but the rain we DID have was very heavy and the River Cherwell is now on flood alert, the river overflow weir near the reservoir is on full gush but the reservoir doesn't look any fuller.

It's nuts isn't it that we are having a drought, hose pipe bans and when we do get rain everything floods!! :?

 Oh no, any damage done? Shout if you need the details of my lovely builder.

The rain is less heavy this morning but it's still rather dark. The forecast seems to be fro less rain tomorrow but showers on Sunday. Shame as I have to be outdoors most of the weekend at a lurcher rescue fundraising race event

Did i hear the weatherman correctly that we had a months rain fall in 36 hrs ?????

i don't need to question it as i can see it for myself but this gives April showers a twist to april deluge. It is never ending !!! We had three hours of Dryness yesterday so i nipped out to scrub cube and change the aubiose......got the cube lid on just as it came down again.....not spitting but a cloud burst , chucks nice and dry and clean ...me drenched in the 30 yds to the house....

We too had a small (ish) flood in the kitchen, it seems as though the rain blew in under the back door. It took me a while to work out why my socks were wet (I'm not at my best in the morning) we've been here for 5 years and it's never happened before. My hens are also staying in the covered part of the walk in run so it must be bad! Usually they wander around as usual and end up looking like they've been for a swim, silly girls.
