The Weather Thread # 6

howling gales here too; chicken parasol blew out of its stand and blocked access to WIR; the other parasol in the front of the house literally jumped out of the hole in the table to leave the table still standing and the parasol on the ground - lucky it wasnt up. way too windy to go on the beach with the dog, its vile when it's blowing, your shoes fill with sand, the poor dog has to walk with his eyes shut!

but still VERY sunny and no sign of any rain at all which means more watering tonight... ho hum.

edited to add - just checked BBC weather site. apparently our winds are 18mph today; down to 13mph tomorrow and then 26mph on Weds/Thurs!! I cant believe today is only 18mph... I used to have a print out of the Beaufort Scale, must google it again and find out what speeds count as what.

Oh my Beach Chick, it does seem much stronger than 18mph here too but who knows? We're on a corner and the wind whips around. I've been chasing loose things all over and trying to find places to stash them. And some felt has blown off our shed roof too. Mild in comparison with what's happening elsewhere I'm sure.

I'm thanking my lucky stars as my sister and brother-in-law had a narrow escape due to high winds having blown some sheets of hardboard off a lorry on the M20. One hit the car but only minor damage to it and none to them.

Think it's time to batten down the hatches... and the chickens (but don't they look lovely when the wind fluffs up their knickers?)

Two days of gale force wind and torrential rain showers have left the garden in tatters. Power cut on Monday evening right in the middle of cooking the evening meal so we had to get out the camping stoves to finish it off. The internet also went off just after I posted on here on Monday afternoon and has only just started working again.

Chilly overnight with a touch of frost. A beautiful morning though, blue skies, sunshine and not a breath of wind :D

You must be getting really long days by now. What time does it get dark? Not till 10 ish here and we are quite a way south.

It is light past 10pm now and light when OH gets up at 3.30am. In a few weeks we will only get 3 hours of true darkness which is great for being out doing jobs in the garden late but not so good when you are trying to sleep at night.

Cold today and torrential rain. Back to Winter here.

Garden covered with shards of broken corrugated sheeting from the WIR and the wood store. Two water butt lids found in the fields, 3 have gone forever or until the Wheat is harvested. We have lost nearly all the Plums, Gooseberries, Pears and Cherries which until a couple of days ago promised to be bumper crops. Bean Poles scattered in the veg garden and the veg garden gate hanging off its hinges which means it is not now Chicken proof. Several bird seed feeders either gone or broken beyond repair and the bird feeder pole bent.

We have plenty of tree branches and twigs to collect from the Chicken's area that can be used for kindling in the stove :D .

Roll on Summer :D

Really heavy rain this morning for about 30 minutes, now really heavy rain again with thunder :)

Chicken made me laugh, she ran out of her covered run when she saw I opened the door, felt the rain and ran straight back under cover and shook herself  bless.

It was ghastly here this morning. cold and wet with high winds, but it cleared as per yesterday and is now sunny and lovely.

I met a couple in the pet shop - they'd come from Herts (near where I come from) for a camping weekend in the Cotswolds and were buying a warm coat for their lurcher pup as it was feeling the cold.

Today is the 29th May and it is the 29th successive day we have had rain; but, I suppose there is rain and rain

We have had mizzle/drizzle/light rain/scattered showers/bouncing rain/soaking rain/thundery rain/horizontal rain of diluvian proportions and hail. :lol::lol::lol:

What we really need here is Perfect Rain, the sort you get at night when the fields breathe a sigh of relief after a hot sunny week

We had some rain on Thursday but only a couple of mm and it has threatened all weekend but nothing has happened. It was very windy last night I was worried about DS who was camping on DofE, but he was fine and didn't get wet. We made him start off in his raincoat and waterproof trousers because it was black as midnight at 9am yesterday, but he ended up boiled

ANH, we are quite exposed here. Surrounded by flat land with a few wooded areas which act as some sort of windbreak but not much. The only hilly bit is the Castle hill which is man made.

Yesterday looked promising, blue skies and quite warm. A day in Inverness with DD, torrential rain all the time we were there and Inverness is always at least 10 degrees colder than at home  Came home to be told that we had had hailstorms. All my newly planted out Runner Beans have been smashed to the ground :wall: and another panel in the greenhouse which had been cracked in the storms last week smashed and lying inside the greenhouse :wall:

Today is lovely, blue skies again and the sun is shining and warm :D Fingers crossed for a lovely day as I am back at work tomorrow.

what a contrast! yesterday was boiling hot, sunny - but with a wind.

today we have no wind, and grey grey skies, and rain - well it's more like drizzle, but at least it's making things look clean.

think I might still have to water the new border tonight though, because it's not really getting the ground properly wet...
