We lost Amber (Smooth Vizsla) on May 10th this year, that last photo was taken the night before Amber died, then 7 months to the day, we lost Jack. :(

We will never have 7 dogs again and it just makes me sad that they will never all be together again.

They were such a special pack - 7 dogs is a lot but they made it easy, they were a joy, still are of course, but being down to 5 just feels very odd.

The photos are taken in an MOD range where we walk, about 10 mins drive from the house. They LOVE it there. It was Jack's favourite place, and I'm going to take his ashes. Although it's an MOD range it's also a SSSI, so there is a real diversity of animals and plants. Beautiful place to walk.

What sort of dog is Kali? I found Kali's twin on a beach in Spain a couple of years ago, and sadly had to leave him and let him be re-homed there.

Kali is a Hungarian Wire Haired Vizsla - still registered under rare breeds in the UK. They are classed as HPRs - they hunt, point and then retrieve, so are an all purpose gundog doing the work of the spaniel (flushing) the Pointer (pointing) and the lab/spaniel (retrieving). Kali used to work with a handler during the whole season and used to be shot over until an over-zealous foreigner shot very, very close to her and ruined her to the gun, she is now very stressed and upset by close gunshot and only goes on pointing days and picking up days.

What great photos :D . Gorgeous dogs - so sorry about the 2 you lost :(

Thank you. It's so hard when you lose them, Jack would have been 15y old a few days ago and I felt so sad that he wasn't here. At least though he had had a long life, poor Amber, her body just gave up.

We've lost 5 dogs now, the two that lived to be almost 15y and almost 17y were JRTx, our pedigrees all died relatively young, our Smooth Haired Fox Terriers were 7y and 9y, and Amber the Smooth Vizsla was 9y. Makes you wonder about hybrid vigour, doesn't it?

I see it a lot at work, so many pedigrees have so many problems, Boxers, Cavaliers, Bulldogs, Pugs, Dalmations, Labradors...the list of problems that so many of these breeds have is endless. Of course, x breeds can have problems too, but not to the extent that we see in pedigrees.

When we showed I was shocked at breeders who openly 'line bred' and thus was often mother to son and father to daughter.
