Someone's having a Happy New Year......

Recommended Posts

.....with my money

I was busy cooking for tomorrow when we had post today  I very nearly just filed my bank statement on my desk without opening it........fortunately I did open it and checked it........some ******* has made 4 payments using my debit card. It took quite a while on the phone to sort it out

My family think that in one way it's hilarious - 4 payments to O2 and Vodaphone.........I have a PAYG phone, never have my phone turned on and a £10 voucher lasts me over a year

The exact same thing happened to me too, just last week, but on my Mastercard!

Were the payments all for £20?

Mine were for Voda 7 O2 too,& 4 payments went out.........I wonder if this is going to happen to lots of people?

Happily I got my replacement card today, but not in time for Christmas

Thanks Sarah, I knew it had been mentioned recently but couldn't remember who it was.....yes, the Vodaphone payments were 3 x £20 and the O2 one was £30, all on the same day, on my Barclays Connect card. I don't know what made me check it.....my November statement is still in its envelope  - I did check November online before I phoned.

Fraudsters are well known for using small amounts paying Mobile phone companies to test if the card details are valid or not, before then using the card to buy more expensive stuff if the mobile transactions go through... So all of you who spot the fraud at this stage are lucky - had you not noticed who knows what your cards would have been used to buy!!

There is a lot of pressure on the phone companies to improve their processes to make them less of a target - but to be fair to them it is not always easy to spot, hence why the fraudsters use their companies! I'm guessing processes will change at some point in the future - whether they are internal or will affect the customer who knows!

 Our local Sainsbury cash machines are a hot spot for cloning and info taking. I try to be really careful about shielding my PIN and sometimes mess about with the numbers without input to detract from the proper code.

"Ooops, word censored!"ody should steal from you though - its just not right ...... :talk2hand:
