Freecycle, would this annoy you like it has me I wonder

Recommended Posts

Please dont feel bad  just think how many other people this nasty piece of work has conned out of items only to sell at a later date  you are doing the right thing by making others on freecycle aware of her antics hopefully she is unlikely to get any more freebies  Perhaps the local papers would be interested in the story now that would realy shame her  My mum used to have a saying "there is more than one way to skin a cat"

You may be interested in section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006....a person commits an offence if they dishonestly make a false representation and intend by making the representation to make a gain for themselves or loss to another.

I'd say from the reaction on here that everyone would agree that both her representations to you and her ad satisfy that definition!

Not everyone who uses Freegle/Freecycle are as bad as this person: I have had some very good experiences using it.

If I have multiple replies to an ad, then I try to ensure that the people I pick are ones who have offered stuff to others in the past, which seems a good way of weeding out the chancers.

I posted some spare chitted spuds once, and the lady picking them up bought me some eggs which were in an Omlet box :-) This was before I had my chickens and I was delighted.

We did exactly the same - the first fellow was quite demanding (had never offered anything before) and practically told us when he would collect. OH told him that we hadn't decided yet. We eventually gave our stuff to a lady who was a regular user of ins and outs and we felt as she had 4 children was more in need of a huge swing frame/climbing frame/slide - TP toys and good stuff - to keep them amused. She was also an army wife which we found out later when she came to collect (it will never cease to amaze me that she managed to get the whole lot in her car). Then came the abuse from the first bloke with numerous emails which we reported. This confirmed we did the right thing. We've not used Freecycle since. Although the first time we used it to pass on our old table and chairs the people that turned up did indeed look like they'd be selling it on, although we were just pleased to get rid of it all - next time we were more wary.

That woman has a blinking cheek. Well, she's just shown what a liar she is. Let the mods know your feelings because this sort of behaviour will stop many people from using it unless they nip it in the bud.

You do have to be careful with freecycle but I am learning and have mostly had very good experiences, including meeting some very nice people. I would never advise putting anything of value on there as it is really designed for advertising stuff that would otherwise go to landfill. In fact Freecycle also advise this I believe.

Having recently moved areas I have discovered that the mods here do not allow you to put a post with a contact telephone number so you cannot be plagued with calls, and they will always act if anything untoward happens.

People who use these sites to make money are committing fraud but it is very hard to catch them as they also do the same with charity shops, car boot sales and ebay. If you can catch them then report them - and a case can eventually be built up.

I agree, I have met some lovely people and we have swapped stuff ex-freecycle as a result.

If you have anything of value put it on Preloved. I am amazed at the stuff I have sold. Somebody even couriered a huge oak table and six chairs to Cornwall. Great place........Preloved that is........well Cornwall too really

Oh and by the way,whoopsie............is it still snowing in Kent?
