Old Speckled Hen
Perhaps us girls should ask Omlet to feature a nice hunk in their book. Especially one that can work bees without a beesuit so that we can admire his physique.
sari
Young female beekeepers.....?? This is the 21st Century........
craftyhunnypie
Hmm yes very sexist - naughty naughty! Suppose Omlet will be having a lonely hearts section next. Can just picture it. Voluptutious big bussomed Ginger seeks male bird ( can't type that word) with GMC ( good morning crow). Emma.x

sari
Is this serious though? Why only young female beekeepers? how young is young? 8 or 18?, why female.....I mean seriously......why??
Olly
I think the answer is almost certainly because it isn't difficult to find old beekeepers, or male beekeepers. I doubt if Omlet are focusing solely on young female beekeepers, they are probably using examples from all areas of life, but this is a hobby taken up mainly (not exclusively) by people over 40, and there are probably more males than females. If you reduce the criteria still further by looking for people who own a Beehaus, there probably isn't a huge range of possible interviewees. If you have any young female members in your group who own a Beehaus, why not pass this on - it could be their chance for fame!
majorbloodnock
Well, I'm a little confused. Why is the post sexist? Has anyone had a sneak preview of the book? Without knowing the content of the book, I'd suggest any assumption as to Quin's motives is dangerous. Perhaps (to pick just one scenario out of my head) Omlet has representatives from most other obvious demographics and wants to fill in a gap. If so, is that sexist or just responsible and balanced journalism? C'mon, people. get wound up about facts rather than guesses, and if you have facts, air them so we can all include them in our judgements. sari
I didn't suggest it was sexist, just wondered why young and FEMALE> why not young beekeepers?
Old Speckled Hen
I think the ad suggests a pretty young thing playing with a Beehaus. It may not be what Omlet intended, posting as they did on our lovely friendly forum, but can you imagine the reaction if this was put in the wanted ads in a newspaper or the local job centre? Mind you, it would be great in Private Eye Perhaps we should ask. I think I will. Back soon..........................
Lavenders_Blue
Well I'd love to have a beehaus and bees but hubby has said What a shame, otherwise I'd definitely be replying (assuming I'm young enough ... I'm 28) Will keep applying the pester power, it worked with the hens and he really likes them now!
WitchHazel
I don''t think there is anything wrong with what they have asked for. Most people (ie not necessarily us Forumites) probably picture beekepers to be old, and/or male. Showing a young female beekeeper is just trying to shatter the stereotype. If it makes more young women think that beekeeping might be for them, then good on Omlet.
Cinnamon
I didn't suggest it was sexist, just wondered why young and FEMALE> why not young beekeepers? I suspect they have someone lined up to fit the male criteria already
