New Hens!

Recommended Posts

After 2 of my chooks got killed by a fox yesterday :(, Honey, the surviving hen was looking rather lonely. So I went out and got 2 new hens :D

The one on the right is Peri-Peri, a Copper Black and the one on the left is Coronation, a Coucou.

They all seem to be getting on nicely, only a little bit of squabbling, but nothing too bad.

I'm sorry you lost your hens, but your new girls look lovely. Can I ask how you introduced them?

I put them straight in the eglu, they ventured out after a while and introduced themselves to Honey. Honey is very timid, so hardly any pecking/fighting happened.

But if they fighting a lot, separate the run into 2 (with bamboo canes) and have 2 separate feeding/drinking areas, this way the new chickens will get to know the existing chickens, but they cannot reach each other and fight. After a while you can remove the bamboo and they will be friends :)

thank you

I'm getting some new bantys at the weekend (I hope!) and was going to let them sleep in an old rabbit hutch and FR around the eglu run. I have some netting to stop them running off all together! Maybe I could chuck them in and see what happens then.....I'm a bit of a wimp though.
