Cinnamon Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 White Stars are great little hens who lay HUGE eggs of the purest white,but they are as mad as snakes,can be flighty & will out run Road runner. Columbines or one of the other hybrids may lay blue or green eggs....I was lucky enough to have 2 that layed each colour. Now our 4 year old can happily feed her from his hand and give her a stroke. She crouches to be picked up as well. They shouldnt have promised that, things like that really annoy me. All Wyandottes lay cream/beige/tinted eggs - any Wyandotte breeder worth their salt would know that! She is a bit nuts, although has chilled out a lot since she started laying (some escapades of hers are mentioned on the 'is chicken keeping as you expected' post), but she easily has the cheekiest character of my girls, and will happily be picked up for a cuddle. Gorgeous looking critter too, big floppy red comb, white earlobes and that lovely, almost dappled cream through chestnut and grey plumage of the legbar. Snoxy Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I will always have one or two White Stars in my flock...just love them...did have 3 but one mysteriously disappeared Stella, who is quite senior now, and who has looked like she has been at deaths door twice! lays enormous eggs every day...she is amazing! I have 3 Columbine/Skylines...Daphne lays a beautiful pastel blue egg, Mildred lays pastel green eggs and Robyn lays a pale sage green coloured egg with white splodges My ex batts are all laying tea rose coloured eggs...they are beautiful Gertrude, my Magpie lays a large sandy coloured egg and Linda my Pied Suffolk lays a beige coloured egg. coco Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I have a cream legbar for the blue eggs [if she ever starts laying]. She is very friendly and is always the first with her head in the treat pot. I have three silkie crosses, they all lay white eggs, a sulta that lays a creamy coloured egg and a frizzle that lays an off white egg. sari Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I have an echequer leghorn who lays the most beautiful porcelain white eggs and they look like they are glowing, sometimes faintly pink. Absolutely huge yolks too...my cream legbar lays pale tinted bluey green eggs, I suspect she's not a good bloodline, as they are never very dark... Goosey Lucy Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I get a pure white egg from my Poland, my Minorca also lays a beautiful white egg and I think she looks stunning with white fleshy ear lobes, deep red comb and glossy black feathers. My two Welsummers lay fabulous dark brown eggs, the one Araucana who decides to lay lays a lovely greeny-blue egg. The Araucanas are the flightiest, Welsummers are lovely big girls. This year I'm hatching some Mulberry Blues - a blue egg laying bantam - as I've caught the "I want a pretty egg box" disease, a less vigourous infection than MoreHens, but also without a cure.
