Guest
Today, despite the fact that the rest of the UK had a bank holiday, my children were at school, and chookiehubbie was at work, so I spent the day watching my new chickens....
feemcg
Yesterday we built some temporary gates to keep the chooks off the deck - its getting so messy with more girls out free-ranging. Also had a visit from niece and nephew. This morning my lovely wee gran died. I saw her last week and my last memory will be telling her about Emma's prom dress and a big smile spreading across her face. So, have had a day in the house today, having lots of happy memories. Lailapet
Fee, I had tears in my eyes reading about your gran. I think you're tackling it well though with lots of happy memories. I spent my day with a friend, it was her 40th birthday. Laila
Guest
I can't believe the weather we've had. 6 degrees - daytime temperature Tomorrow we're predicted 17 degrees, so it's really bizarre. Had a nice day though.
red
Please please explain what Potwalloping is! Im kinda thinking of folks wallopping pots but that cant be right can it? The Burrows at Northam/Westward Ho! are protected from the sea by an immense barrier or ridge of loose pebbles, extending two miles in length, thrown up by the sea, and presenting a natural sea wall against the waves of the Atlantic ocean. Without the ridge the sea would wash in across the Burrows and the land would be totally lost. Potwalloping is an old custom whereby residents of the borough of Northam, in order to protect their grazing rights on the Burrows, would throw back onto the pebble ridge all the pebbles which had been washed down, onto their grazing land. The pebble ridge is an almost unique geological structure, there being only one other like it in the world. The ridge consists of a steep bank of cobbles made from fine grained sandstone which regularly breaks free from the cliffs running westward to Hartland. This debris is taken up by the force of the sea and progressively swept towards the beach at Westward Ho! The buffeting from the surf gradually wears down the original angular blocks, which would have been more orange in colour initially, to the rounded grey pebbles that form the ridge. The festival is just an excuse to erect a beer tent!!!

The Dogmother
We nearly got blown off the planet in Norfolk. Rosie and Phil climbed the country's tallest wind turbine, while Dilly and I caught up on gossip in the cafe. Came back yesterday to 8 degrees and loads of laundry!
