Nicki85
Well after reading the forum for a couple of months now I thought it was time to jump in and introduce myself I'm very new to chicken keeping having picked up my first chickens two weeks ago. I'm really enjoying them, no eggs yet but they are so cute... It took along time to decide which hens we wanted... We eventually decided on two Burford Browns and two Cotswold Legbars after being impressed by the company at a local show. They have mixed well and the Burford browns are most definitly in charge! (as the breeder said they would!) For the first week Lilith was in charge... this has now changed to Ruby who has proceeded in pulling out a fair few tail feathers from Lilith. The two Legbars, Delia and Doreen, are very sweet but very flighty! They are just getting their tail feathers through now and keep well out of the way of Ruby! Doreen especially is very funny... she is at the bottom of the pecking order and will shout at everyone while they eat the treats first until she is allowed some! She is always last to bed, finally taking herself off to the coop an hour later than the others. She is a bit of a drama queen and races off in all directions if you move to quick... They are all housed in a doodlehouse which i'm really liking the hens seem to like it and understand to roost on the bars! and it's easy to clean so i'm happy! I'd love to post some pics of my small flock but the images keep coming out like this... any tips? Edited June 10, 2011 by Guest
Egluntyne
You haven't racked up enough posts to be able to post pics, do forum searches etc. It is built in to stop spammers joining up and bombarding the forum with rubbish. Here you go.
Tweety
Hello, and welcome to the forum. Your chickens sound lovely, and I am very interested to hear what you think about the Doodlehouse.I was very tempted to get one for my chicks, but eventually decided on the eglu Go. Is it easy to assemble and take apart for cleaning? Enjoy your chooks!
witzend
I love the designs but I wish somone would teach them how to do a more user-friendly website - it's not doing them any favours. I found it so hard to read I almost didn't bother................I'm sure other wouldn't!!! At least chooks don't have to read !!
Chortle Chook
Oh I love your hen house. Really pretty. Did it come with all the flowers on it or did you paint them on. Sorry if I am being dim but I've never heard of a 'Doodlehouse'

Nicki85
Oh I see- mystery solved! I was so confused why it wouldn't post the pics.... I'll go and reply to some other posts and then add some more pics of my chooks! The doodlehouse came complete with flowers! Funny story really, ordered one off ebay (from the supplier) for 3-4 chickens. It came but was the smaller model- only suitable for 2-3 chooks The company were really good tho and sent out the even bigger house for free! They also let me choose a colour, hence the beautiful flowers! It's even spotty on the inside... So this one fits 5-6 chooks easily and mine seem to like it. They understand where the perches are and have used them from day one. As for how I like it... It's very easy to take apart completly and clean so it's going to be super easy to do a deep clean every month or so. I don't like the fact I can't move it easily without taking it apart but thats about it! Also it has four nest boxes which I think is a bit excessive lol. I'll try and take some more pics of the inside etc. if people are interested... I went for it as the chicken breeder wasn't a big fan of the omlet products as they sit directly on the floor... (apart from the cube which I love but tooooo expensive!)

It is just so girly and pretty for lady chooks. As you have so many nest boxes . . . perhaps a couple more chooks Or am I being Take no notice P.S. I can't tell from the website - are the Doodlehouses plastic or wood?
Nicki85
Thanks for the kind words everyone The Doodlehouse is indeed a type of recycled plastic and fits together like a flat pack thingamjiggy... Very easy lol! Ohhh I think I maybe able to add pictures now... so... I am pleased to introduce Ruby Lilith Delia Doreen They are so cute! They will all now take corn and grapes from my hand and are quite happy with me I still haven't been brave enough to let them free range yet as the garden is pretty big with lots of shrubs, a pond, trees and other things they might get lost in! Need to get a bit braver
Sam
Doreen is lovely! She has a great hair-do I think chickens are a bit stupid and can drown easily in water, so best to cover that up if they are left to free range! How about you get them trained to the sound of you shaking a tub of corn/mealworms, works a treat with me! I've actually trained them to come running when I make a clicky sound so I can get them to me quickly if needs be I love your coop too

migsy
The Doodlehouse looks lovely but the website is crazy. I can't find any prices either. Love your chooks by the way!
percy049
Lovely girls ! What breed is Doreen? Is she some sort of Maran? I haven't seen one with a tuft before . Be careful with bullying as Ruby looks really young (16 weeks perhaps), as there is hardly any sign of wattles, and a very tiny comb! Chortle Chook
I've managed to find the The Doodlehouse contact us link and have popped them over an email about their website which I hope will help them. I said that their houses look super but we are struggling to use their website. Could be something as simple as changing the typeface I'd love to have a better look but would certainly not dare order from them when I can hardly work out what is what. bluekarin
I love these chicken houses too. Prices are here http://www.doodlehouse.co.uk/coops/timber-or-recycled-plastic/recycled-plastic-chicken-coops but you are right, the website is really not user friendly. Bit of redesigning needed me thinks
Chortle Chook
I got a nice reply from Doodlehouse when I wrote to them to say that their website was not exactly user friendly. They agreed that it was time for a web redesign. The lady said that she had designed it herself as she was sick of dealing with red mite and getting somewhere, then nowhere, then somewhere ... and was also sick of having her head hanging in the coop to clean it out. She says it was a business that happened by accident about two years ago. I'll be keeping an eye on this company as I'm totally paranoid about red mite getting into my wooden house, but at the same time wanted a girly, pretty pretty chook house. I like the Cube but wanted something a bit more old fashioned / trad looking but in plastic. Cost for a 4-5 chook house is £290 which seems very reasonable. pips_pekins
I checked out these lovely houses when I started looking for a second home Think I first saw them in a magazine and checked out the website. I don't remember having any problem with it but agree with you Cheaky Chook, I don't like the typeface! They still seem to sell quite a few through ebay. They come in some really designs but I am banned from looking at the moment Love your girls and set up Nicki 85. I am ever so of Delia. I really want a bantam with that sort of hairdo to go with my naked neck who looks like she is wearing a mini toupee Welcome to the forum. Guest
I like the doodle houses but they are too small for me and I have just ordered my cube. I think may have to decorate the cube with wheely bin stickers or something to pretty it up
