Bramble
How quickly would you expect a buyer to pay after they have won an auction? I've only sold four things and three buyers have paid pretty much straight away, but my fourth sale finished last night and I haven't heard from the winning bidder - at what point should I contact them? rachel19
It can take people a couple of days sometimes. If they haven't paid after 48 hours I generally send another inoivce to prompt them.
Cinnamon
There is no such thing as a dim question, just those you know the answer to & those you don't I give them a week. I make this very clear in my terms & conditions, & after that I go through the non paying bidder process. A day is really no time at all - give them another couple then re send their invoice. After a week just start the non paying bidder process,if its gone that far.
Bramble
OK, thanks both, I'm not too worried, but I timed the auction to end on a Wednesday PM as Thursday is the one week day when I can usually get to the Post Office, hopefully s/he'll pay by tomorrow night so I can post Saturday, if not they may have a longer wait Thanks again! Cinnamon
If you can only get to the PO one day a week it is really worth making that clear in your listings,as you will avoid a potential neg for late sending that way (maybe you already did, sorry!) Bramble
Thanks Cinnamon, funnily enough I did do that for the first time with this listing, only because I saw that someone else had done something similar on one of their sales, great tip though, thank you very much I'm finding ebay selling quite a steep learning curve! Chucky Mama
Have you sent them an invoice yet? If not I would send one.
Bramble
Yes, I have, thanks. Will leave it 'til tomorrow night and then re-send if I don't hear. (Would they still be able to pay if I hadn't sent an invoice? Like I say, steep learning curve ! )
bluekarin
I've just had to wait over a week for someone to pay. Usually people pay either at auction end or the next day. I did send a polite message asking if it was an oversight. Best to keep things nice and calm, otherwise people can get really funny. But, and this is a little bit naughty, I haven't rushed out to post the item But it will go today. Just seen your new post. Yes, you can still pay without receiving an invoice
Chucky Mama
I'd keep you cool, not everyone pays quickly.
Bramble
That's great, thanks! I'm not worried or cross or anything, being new to it all, I'm just not sure what to expect. I know if I bid on something, I pay the moment the auction ends (unless it's in the middle of the night, then I pay first thing next day), if I won't be around to pay promptly, I don't bid, but I guess that won't work for everyone. The Dogmother
Phil uses ebay and often has people who don't pay until later, often as late as a week after winning the bidding. It's a bit like those folk on Freegle who ask to have something you're offering, then go offline for days on end
Bramble
Thanks all! S/he still hasn't paid, but the really good news is, I've found a PO that opens at 7am (yes, 7am) can't believe it, so will be able to post stuff pretty much any day now, as I'll be able to drop stuff off on my way to work, hooray!!!!!! I'm also thinking if they buyer doesn't pay promptly, then I needn't worry too much about trying to post things really quickly as I like to do!? Duckmomma
I'm shocked that people can leave it a week before paying I pay the minute the auction ends. No wonder I get such good feedback as a buyer, I just thought they were being a bit over enthusiastic about leaving positive feedback
Ain't Nobody Here
I once had a buyer who won an item then disappeared from Ebay completely without once making contact . You have no idea if something awful happened, he was kicked off by Ebay or he just decided to give it all up . I offered it to the next bidder so sold it anyway . The Dogmother
That sort of behaviour would annoy me; I find it rude.
sadietoo
As a complete e-bay novice, I successfully bid for a cube today (yay ) but I have to say, I did a maximum bid thing ....so I guess sometimes bidders may use that if they are going away for a weekend but don't want to miss out which may account for some late payers? Bramble
It took my buyer 48 hours to pay ... have to say, I was surprised it took that long, I always pay immediately, I wouldn't bid on anything if I'm not going to be around when the auction ends. Posted the item off on Saturday though so hopefully s/he'll get it today. Do most buyers leave feedback, or is it just those that can be bothered? Cinnamon
Another thing to remember is that a lot of bidders use the work computers,so they are then at home for the weekend & log on again when back at work on Monday. I don't think 2 days is especially long to wait for payment - I have waited up to a week before now. Most do pay within a day or so,but many of my buyers leave it 2 or 3 days. Some leave feedback, some don't. I tend,as a seller, not to leave feedback until it is left for me,as I see that as the end of our transaction..knowing they are happy with everything. Jools
I'm shocked that people can leave it a week before paying I pay the minute the auction ends. Me too. IMHO is bad manners not to pay quickly and if you're not going to be around for a day or two once the auction ends, the least you can do is to let the seller know in advance. On the odd occasion I've had a slow payer, I've contacted them to ask if they still want the item as I'll re-list it if not ...
Cinnamon
The thing is,eBay give them a week - I believe that you cannot open an unpaid item dispute until a week is up. Annoyingly,I just opened a dispute against a non payer & relisted the item,to find that after eBays correspondence with her,she paid up If you want or need paying quickly,it should be made very clear in your listing. I always pay right away, but I often Snipe rather than bid, which may mean I am away for the 'puter for a few hours,or like the past 2 weeks, have no Broadband at all 7 have to rely on3G
Jools
The thing is,eBay give them a week - I believe that you cannot open an unpaid item dispute until a week is up. You're right, but that doesn't stop you asking the slow payer if they still want the item and saying that you'll re-list it if not. 99% of the time the payment follows pretty promptly. Cinnamon
In my opinion relisting an item before a weeks grace waiting for payment is up,is not how a good seller should work. I am very strict on my terms & conditions:I give a week overall, sending an invoice upon the auction end & another as a reminder after 4 days. After a week, their time is up. I still say that if you want your payment immediately (and there is the option for immediate payment on BIN listings) or very quickly,it needs to be made very clear in the listing,as most sellers give a week to pay. Pre Paypal (yes,I have been selling for that long!) we used to have to wait for cheques to arrive in the post, bank them, wait for them to clear then post the item. That was fun
Jools
I didn't say I relisted in less than a week, I said I ask slow payers if they still want the item and if not, I say I'll relist it. Strangely enough they've all replied and paid immediately. Fortunately I don't sell much on ebay, just the occasional low value item when I'm having a clear out at home. I'm obviously old fasioned because I believe that if someone wins an item, they should pay for it quickly and not drag their heels for days on end. I pay as soon as I know I've won an item and I expect the same good manners from others. I consider myself to be a good seller and a good buyer.
