Space Chick
Since I started keeping hens, I logged the number of eggs I received per day (sad I know) Well today we have reached a major milestone. My hens have laid me 5000 eggs!!!!!! What has made today even more special (she must have known) is that Donna, one of my 2 remaining original girls, has come out of her egg laying retirement to lay me my 5000th egg I have now decided to stop logging eggs now
izzys-hens
Well done I have never thought about the total amount of eggs i have had but currently we are getting loads at least over 35 a week, so i wonder how many that means i have ever had in total. Congratulations, im sure your hen must have held that egg in until she new when it was time to lay the 5000th egg
LuckyChickenLover-
Wow 5000 How long have you been keeping chooks? I wish I'd counted all the eggs my hens have ever laid right from the start I intended to have an Excel spreadsheet documenting every single egg my hens ever laid, who laid it, it's weight, it's circumfrence etc... only two eggs were ever logged on it. How sweet of Donna to come out of retirement for you That must have been very special
Space Chick
We've only had them for 2 years 4 months although morehens disease did mean my flock grew and quickly Yep, it was an Xcel spreadsheet I had, logging individual hen and daily egg weight No more though, was taking WAY too much time I was really touched at Donna I swear she must have known
Egluntyne
Blimey. Well done. Have you worked out exactly how much each one has cost?

Have you worked out exactly how much each one has cost? Now that would be very scary Easily a £1 an egg I reckon what with 2 WIR's, Eglus, Cubes, mezzanine levels, cleaning stuff, health stuff, vets trips, treats, feed, incubators, heat lamps, indoor rabbit cages for brooders etc. I used to have FAR more money pre-hens, but also my life wasn't so full, so you win some, you lose some

I record all our eggs too, we have had chooks for longer than you and have only managed just over 3,000. We have had 1,010 this year so far. Rather sad that you are not carrying on recording. Working out the cost of each egg NOOOOOO my OH would have a fit I think if I did that Chrissie
