Lesley
As some of you know, my granddaughter Lauren has been having some problems lately with her joints. In the last month she had dislocated her thumb 3 times, dislocated her shoulder twice and has had it manipulated back into position under general anaesthetic because it was out of place for 10 days. On Monday, she left Center Parcs in an ambulance after her hip 'came out' - X-rays showed it wasn't still dislocated or broken, but there was soft tissue damage. Today, I waited outside her classroom until Jake asked why we were waiting as "Lauren's gone to hospital in an ambulance" She was kept in at lunchtime and break times but fell over a chair on her way to the toilet and has hurt her knee. She has had to give up playing the Cello, swimming which she was very good at, any sport and cycling....... She's 9 and the tallest in her class. There are some hypermobility problems in other family members - but nothing to this extent. Has anyone else had similar problems? - any ideas? Egluntyne
Oh poor Lauren! What a year she is having! It's time she was referred to someone who can deal with this condition properly. I'm a bit surprised that the school didn't let you know that she had gone to hospital.
beach chick
oh poor little lamb. no idea what to suggest, but my sympathies to Lauren (and the family), it sounds horrible.
Lesley
To be fair Egluntine, they did phone her Mum - I wasn't contactable as I was out having physio myself - after hurting my knee 4 years ago when I slipped on ice in the same school playground She has been seeing a shoulder specialist - I don't know if he deals with much else, because she saw someone else for her thumb. Egluntyne
Oh good....it did seem odd. How is she now?
Lesley
Still waiting to be seen - daughter just phoned and then went in a hurry, so hopefully that was her call to be seen.
Guest
Poor, poor Lauren. I feel so sorry for her. The novelty must have worn off now and she is having to lose so much. I too cannot believe that the school didn't let you know - or maybe your daughter didn't manage to tell you? I don't have any experience but I think you must insist that she sees a paediatric specialist now, not an appointment in 3 months' time. The mind boggles at the possibilities of joints dislocating and you need to be reassured that she is not at risk of any lasting damage. Lots of love and positive thoughts to you all! xx
Lesley
Crossed post Ginette - the school phoned my daughter as I was out. She went with Lauren in the ambulance. I'm going to be in trouble again for not having my mobile turned on - I only have mine in case of a breakdown or other such emergency. I will be told again that sometimes others may have an emergency and need to contact me

I tell her that we might need to contact her - and she says 'I don't want people ringing me on my mobile. I deliberately don't give people my number.' She just can't see it! Sorry I took so long typing that half of it was irrelevant!
Lesley
Oh OK - I'll go and charge it up then ....... if I can remember where the charger is I'm glad i posted on here - I've had a PM pointing me towards something I've never heard of, not a diagnosis of course but just a pointer and something to think about. Jules.
Poor Lauren, hope that the reason for this is found out soon, & that she doesn't have to wait too long to be seen in A&E..
bronze
Hope she gets treatment quickly. I grew fast as a child and dislocated my knee and several fingers several times but nothing to her extent. I have suffered from dodgy joints ever since and I think this is due to the growing fast thing. I'm sure if she gets the help she needs now she wont get to her mid 20s like me and worrying that she'll get arthritis or the like by the time shes
Karen & co.
Poor Lauren I hope they manage to get to the bottom of why she keeps dislocating joints it must be so uncomfortable for her, and worrying for the family karen x
Lesley
Thank you all - it's such a help to be able to come in here and ask. Lauren has had an ECG and is being admitted to the paediatric unit for a full assessment. At least now it is being taken seriously - Mansfield Hospital didn't want to listen on Monday evening. susanbb
So sorry to hear about Lauren and what she's had to enjure. I'd suggest that you push for the appropriate referral whilst she's in A&E just to get to the bottom of why this is happening. If there's a Paediatrician on site at your A&E that may be a quicker route otherwise you may have to wait a short time for that referral. I hope that all goes well and I do hope that I didn't come across as being too clinical. Best wishes Susan
Lesley
No, that's fine Susan. She's seeing the paediatrician as we speak.

Mrs Frugal
Poor old sweetheart. It's not fair that she's having to miss out on things she enjoys, bless her. I hope the paediatrician has some suggestions for treatment so she can enjoy her childhood and not be limited in what she does. I know what that's like and you never get over the disappointment of not being able to do the things others can. Good luck, Lauren and a big but gentle hug for you. xxx
theherd123
Oh no Lesley, this situation seems never ending Poor Lauren i bet she is so fed up of it all now. I do hope they do a full and comprehensive assessment and get to the bottom of all this as it must be such a worry for you all.
SarahJo
Thoughts are with you and Lauren Lesley. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas as to why she has repetitive injuries. Hope they can give a conclusive diagnosis. xox
