Stevie Adams
I had an orange ball in my garden the other week and I kicked it and the girls went absolutely barmy! They were squawking for about 10 minutes. I put it down to them just not liking the ball being kicked but, today I went to the shed to get a bucket out and it was - you guessed it - ORANGE! I walked out of the shed again and they went absolutely bonkers. I've since tested it with a couple of other things and they definitely don't like it! Sam
Have a read of this Some people have chickens scared of orange stuff, including mine! I could only guess its because it looks like a fox
gongladosh
mine are scared of a yellow food ball that we put in their run to kick around... they're scared of bark chipping bags they're scared of washing up gloves they're scared of bags of compost they're scared of the lawnmower they're scared of LOTS of things  I think that these days the new top hen, Troy, really isn't much of a leader so they tend to get into a panic relatively easier. This didn't happen under previous top hen, Kiki (a tough nut).

beach chick
I tested this theory with 2 rather bruised apricots this morning, and can categorically say that if its EDIBLE greed will overcome any fear
AlisonH
Don't know about orange but mine LOVE pink. They go for pink toenail polish - mine not theirs! and love my daughters pink crop shoes yet leave anyone else's alone!
counturchickens
I think I have brave hens (or stupid) they don't seem bothered by much, although they kept a very close eye a low flying hot air balloon!
softyandrosiearmy
My hens are cool with most things they only get wound up with travelling and other peoples cats. They love ours!

Alis girls
Ditto police helicopter and if I shake say a sheet out to put on washing line and it makes a swooping noise they go mental. They hate robins too.
Stevie Adams
Well it's true, they definitely hate orange! We're building a patio at the moment and normally they chase after string, but they went mental over the orange string we were using to make some guide lines. They don't like the screwdriver either They're all orange!

Stevie Adams
I've managed to use this to my benefit! The Orange cement mixer, bucket and ball have been put next to the new patio to stop the girls leaving their droppings behind

LuckyChickenLover-
According to this hens in orange Eglus lay fewer eggs than those in other colours .
cooker
I like the idea of using orange things to keep the chickens away...I might try that to keep them off our decking! Ours definately do respond to colour, Ive noticed ours love green and red things (they will peck my red painted nails given the chance!) when I have given them leftover veg they will pick out the greens and any potatoes but they never touch the carrots!
