Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

When I let them out this am 'she' started chasing her sister as if to tread and on closer insection noticed large purple wattles have appeared and quite a pronounced comb, she is approx 5-6 months but not crowing Here is a pic

Not an expert - but what an handsome fella/girl. How many chucks have you got now Sara?

Too many 29 I will keep him/her unless the crowing becomes a problem or fighting breaks out with my pekin cockerel (they will have to live together at night in the shed). Luckily the breeder said she will rehome if girls become boys

Pic on Practical Poultry too and the spikey head feathers are a give away apparently. I swear those wattles grew overnight

How lovely he/she is! This forum really makes you want more hens....I just have 2 lovely Warrens but when I see the pics of all the different types my mind starts to think........I could probably fit another couple in my Classic Maybe next year.....

my cockeral has a lot smaller comb and wattles than yours, i think mine started to squwark (crow) a little earlier than 5-6months but im not too sure

Think Scout must be about 8 months - how old is Scooter ? You can't see on the pic but comb is still very small - I'll have to wait for an egg or crowing

The hairdo doesn't help much either, it is rather boyish.

 

Yet Silkies are a constant mystery

On closer inspection tail is very spiky and full with green feathers I'll have to hatch some girls next year

Pretty sure I heard a little crow this am However he waited until he was out let out of so maybe that is soundproofing him

 

Luckily he is called Scout so won't have to change it

I also think your little one looks like a fella. Sorry. But if my little Silkie boy, Dill, is anything to go by then Silkie boys are fab. I can't say that his crow is the best of crows (in fact it sounds rather like a strangled cat) but his manners to his girls, to me, my OH and my Jack Russel dog are perfection and he is so friendly.

He's not going anywhere - my son's have banned me from rehoming him, they call him and the other silkies the emus

our Apricot was a silkie that turned out to be a boy.... he was absolutely gorgeous and SUCH a gentleman with his ladies (apart from when he was doing the obvious). BUT for a small bird he was very very loud, so he had to go to a new home where they have no neighbours. hope Scout manages to keep his voice down!

He's scared of his own shadow so will probably be too terrified to crow loudly

I'm very glad that Scout is staying at home - for now at least Put it this way, when my Silkie cockerel, Dill, goes to the big crowing place in the sky, I'll be getting another one, even if it means putting him to bed at night in a cat box in the downstairs bathroom.
