Question-PAYE notifications

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if you can get sent out new PAYE notifications from the tax office?

As I haven't been in work it means I don't have one for this tax year and I only have one for last tax year, which the bank wouldn't accept as proof of ID as it was more than 4 months old. So this meant I couldn't prove my ID, and this is the only thing on the list I actually have, as I don't have a passport and don't drive...I'd need it within 2 weeks though...

Can anyone give me a heads up please?

Getting a passport would be a good idea but think it takes 6 weeks to do - not sure if can be done quicker first time if you go in.

A provisional licence is a good idea for using as ID at Uni, you'll need proof of age to go out and for Union events.

Mine only took a couple of weeks to come too :)

They told me that I could get an NUS card to prove my identity, (but I'd have to pay for it online, and would thus need the debit card first), but that will be delivered to the university, and so is absolutely no use because I need it before I go. Also, HSBC won't except provisional licenses as proof of ID if you are over 18 and a passport will take too long to sort out-although I will probably get one during my 2nd year, as I may end up abroad for my year in industry, but until then I don't actually have a need for it and they are so expensive to get.

For ID and things I was then going to get a Citizen card for university anyway, but the bank probably wouldn't except this either.

Will ring the tax office tomorrow and see if I can get one for this tax year. If not, then I'll go to Halifax to get a student account as I already have an account with them. The bureaucracy of this situation is absolute lunacy, but they've had to do it to stop fraud, making any normal person guilty before then being proved innocent.

It is unlikely that you will get a PAYE code number if you aren't currently employed....and also speaking to the Tax office is a bit like banging your head against a brick wall..but more painful..you are better off with a passport....sorry!

Agree with this. Plus even if they do agree to send something out to you it can often take 2 weeks for it to go through their internal postal system to actually leave the building, oh and that's if they haven't run out of paper again!
