chestnutmare
... a cat litter tray? http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Dustbath_for_Chickens.html It's pricey but it does look nice and sturdy, and there looks to be plenty of room for the chickens to have a dust about in with high sides. Has anyone got one?

Chucky Mama
I have an old tyre in the garden that mine use but they prefer digging their own holes that double as somewhere for the mid morning snooze.
jackian
I have a square storage box which 3 fit in but is sturdy enough for them all to stand on.their WIR is on earth and they dig holes in that and roll around usually early evening. Once 1 starts they all do ,comical to watch , they are such copy cats .
chestnutmare
I didn't think of an old car tyre and yes, they are such copy cats. I'll try them with the litter tray again. If not I'll have to look for something else... OH reckons the dustbath I posted is too big for their WIR and I think he's right.
ohcarolina
I have a fab red ladybird paddling pool (Got it off Freecycle) with a lid that none of them use They prefer any old hole that they make themselves so my garden resembles the surface of the moon
The Dogmother
Mine have an old enamel washbowl in their run - I keep it topped up with woodash or dried potting compost. They still dig up the garden though
chestnutmare
Little darlings aren't they?... wanting to dig holes everywhere. I don't want them on my new lawn I have to admit because I've seen what they can really do to grass!

percy049
mine just have a dustbath wherever they want to!
chestnutmare
LOL, I remember my three demolishing a huge patch of grass ion about two weeks, having about 20mins free ranging daily and the amount of pot holes!! It's not so bad on rugged ground but we have a section of grass now and, sorry chickens, as tasty as the grass must look to you you can't demolish the lawn. So a made dust bath it'll have to be. I'll try the washing bowl idea, thanks.

emmastar
Mine have this dust bath and love it , they all take it in turns to have a good roll about each day . It has not stoped them from going into the raised flower bed though but if they are locked into the walk in run this is what they use . I did try the cat litter tray and other things but mine are fussy and waited for me to splash out before giving my beds some rest .
