patsylabrador
Hey you people in the North West of Britain, especially Scotland, batten down the hatches. They're forecasting very strong winds on Monday. Remnants of the hurricane. Winds between 40 - 70 mph they think.
Ain't Nobody Here
Really ? Hadn't heard about this . Thankfully I'm in the south east!
Goosey Lucy
Heard about this on the way home. We're expecting gusts of 60ish on Sunday.
WarrensWorld
60 - 70mph a mere bagatelle. The wind generator is kosher up to 110mph, I built it with belt and bracers. Mind you we lost a couple of panels off the barn roof at 90mph in 1998. That's when we saw Bernie's mobile home roll down the hillside. Bernie and famille were safe in the house at the time. The wind this year destroyed the buds on the apple, pear, raspberries and the blackcurrants. The Poly Tunnel, and its contents survided just. ali-s
The wind is getting up here tonight although we are not due the worst of the weather until tomorrow evening. The weather report on TV today has forecast us 70 - 80 mph hour winds. I have moved garden furniture and anything else that could blow about into the sheds. It is not unusual for us to gets gales and winds at high speeds in the Autumn, Winter and early Spring, looks like it is starting earlier this year Tonight it seems every field around us has a combine in it and tractors and trailers are trundling up and down the road. I think it is a race against time to get the crops harvested before the gales arrive. We are expecting a disturbed night as we have two fields very close to the cottage waiting to have wheat harvested.
Christian
You take it easy up there Ali.
The Dogmother
I hope your night wasn't too bad Ali. I was woken in the night by rattling and gusts going on, got up and shut all the windows and managed to get back to sleep despite the racket outside. It was mild and very windy this morning with rain too, but it has cleared now. Still very, very windy though and there are branches/leaves down everywhere, the old lime tree outside my office window has some dead branches on it so I'm a bit nervous about those coming down on the road. LolaLayla
It is quite windy with gusts just now. I think it is supposed to get worse later today The girls were out in the garden but I have shut them in their run and Layla has decided she has had enough and gone into the eglu (she has already laid her egg so it's not for that reason). Lola who sadly doesn't have the brains she was born with is still outside with her feathers being blown all about....that can't be a comfortable feeling Unless, Layla who is head hen, is telling her not to come in Hmm now I feel sorry for Lola if that could be the case. patsylabrador
It's surprisingly windy here. I didn't expect much, my beans have gone over & pears are falling like cluster bombs. Chickens are very cross.
The Dogmother
It seems to be worse here now and the paper reports that we are to expect the worst of it from 1pm onwards in this area. Still no worse than the storms on 1996 or the mini-tornado in our park about 4 years ago.
gongladosh
last night I put everything that could move into the garage... then a few bricks on the beehaus... The next thing after that was to move poor little broody Houdini - - from her broody cage back to the cube. Not strictly necessary but she'll be less frightened in with the others. This means I've have a broody back at square one, when she was just coming out of it... At least she'll feel safe (ish) though.
LolaLayla
Layla is back out and as Lola hasn't rushed in I suppose she must have been happy enough outside. Both are being buffeted about now I did wonder whether I should shut them in the eglu

Omletina Kyckling
Two large trees are down in my neighbourhood. So far. Just seen one of them on Look North and mum said it looked like your area. It's blowing a gale atop the hill here!! Just used dads handheld anemometer outside my kitchen and got 44mph straight away! j00lz_12366
The winds really picking up here now..bit darker too. I'm going to fasten the girls in before I have to head back out to work!
The Dogmother
It's much worse here in the midlands too, sunny but blowing a gale. One of the sash windows in my office was rattling so much that I've had to wedge some paper in the frame to stop it.
ali-s
Slept all night and didn't hear a thing. Woke up this morning to heavy rain but not a breath of wind. TV weather reports are now saying the gales will not reach us as they have moved South. I hope ANH is OK.
Snowy
It's really strange here. I'm at work in a windowless office but I can hear the wind screaming around outside! I wonder if it's as bad as it sounds?
The Dogmother
It is here! The direction of the wind has shifted slightly - it's now more northwesterly.
patsylabrador
Interesting page metofficestorms It doesn't mention SE England, I guess it's not fierce here really, just more fierce than normal!! I follow @MetOfficeStorms on twitter and it's very interesting. I'm used to reading about storms over other parts of the world and not over Scotland. LolaLayla
Interesting pagemetofficestorms Thanks for this. Gusty here. Not been far, but don't think there is any damage as yet, thankfully! Just lots of twigs and leaves blowing about. Girls are sitting down to avoid the wind.
