dancing cloud
Ex-batts are a constant source of celebration and I realised this morning that Sky is now my longest-lived, having been free for 2 years 5 months and 15 days (my previous record-holder was Chance at 2 years 5 months and 10 days). Here's Sky when she was first adopted, very thin, pale and featherbare:- And as she is now, a cheeky, happy top-chook:- Here's hoping for many more months of Sky being in charge, and for lots more ex-batts enjoying long and happy lives in freedom
Mercedes55
Awwww how beautiful she looks now. You have done well to keep an ex batt for so long, we were told to expect ours to survive for about 18mths and we still have 3 of our original 4 and have had them for 14mths now. coco
She looks really well. My last ex batt has been free two years at the end of next month and is still head girl although she is mellowing in her old age.

Lavenders_Blue
Amazing - I would not have believed those two photos were of the same hen! Sky is a very beautiful hen, obviously still healthy and enjoying life. My four ex batt ladies are coming up to 2 years freedom next month. Although I am now only getting one egg a day, two if I am very lucky (well, they deserve a retirement don't they?), so I think a couple of new ex batts to join my current rabble will be on the cards soon.
