patsylabrador
My newest acquisition for getting fit. 'THE HOUR OF POWER ', it is quite a sweaty, exhausting DVD work out but honestly good fun and these are my main three reasons : 1. You get to watch a lovely looking bloke with an amazing body exercising on a beautiful mountain in the sun. 2. You get to watch a lovely looking bloke with an amazing body exercising on a beautiful mountain in the sun. 3. You get to watch a lovely looking bloke with an amazing body exercising on a beautiful mountain in the sun. I think that is a fairly comprehensive review - buy and enjoy. The Dogmother
Good enough reason if I ever heard one. I'm in the sick bay again Honestly, getting old stinks. I had a minor rupture of my Gastroc (Gastrocnemius) a few weeks back and was nursing it after an osteopath session; the bruising and swelling had gone down and he'd recommended that I keep it moving GENTLY to maintain the full range of movement as it heals. On Saturday we went for a walk and I slid on some gravel on a slight incline, this was enough to rupture it more and I heard it 'pop'. Rosie and Phil each took a dog on their leads and helped me back down the hill. Luckily (strapped with Vetwrap which I keep in the car) I was able to drive back home with Phil following me in his car. Strapped back up again with a heavy duty brace and under instructions to keep it moving, I am taking no risks now and being careful; I went to circuits last night and walked the running bits and didn't do any jumping at all and it was fine. Sorry to hear you're crook again, but your description above made me Keep taking it steady, Lucy x
Reikiranf
Ooh Patsylabrador, I might have to check that out So sorry to hear that Dogmother, sounds horrifically painful not to mention frustrating for you I wish you as speedy a full recovery as possible
lillybettybabs
DM, i have done a similar injury from massaging dogs that refused to go on the massage couch. I have just been to Elsa who has treated it and found that my patella was out and that's why i probably injured it. She has popped it back in and I'm resting and doing a vascular flush on the muscle and i will do it on the knee to.
The Dogmother
Hope it works Karen, you'll have to look at mine at the weekend It's much easier today and I'm doing plenty of careful walking between resting.
lillybettybabs
Be careful, try and keep it raised when possible and ice or vascular flush once a day to help the pain, It will alway be weaker as you will have lots of scar tissue.
The Dogmother
It's not painful any more and I'm taking loads of Arnica. There's some scar tissue on the other calf where I had the same injury 10 years ago... the end of my sprinting career!
Reikiranf
Just remembered this thread How are you all? Am I the only one still trying? I've lost 2st 9lbs now and I'm exercising most days doing dvd workouts in the conservatory. I hope that everyone's injuries have healed or greatly improved
The Dogmother
Blimey, had forgotten this thread Lost plenty of weight whilst looking after Rosie in hospital, the injuries got better too due to the enforced lack of hard exercise. Sad thing is that I was so tired that I comfort ate when we got back home, so I need to get a handle on that and be more disciplined. Seemed to spend most of my work day today racing up and down the stairs and lifting heavy boxes, that must count for something.
lillybettybabs
If been picking up with the dogs at least twice a week so i only manage gym a couple of times a week. I do a fair few miles with a game-bag full of birds whilst working on shoots so i'm loosing the study fat slowly.
The Dogmother
That sounds good, and fresh air too. I meant to tell you that I saw a shoot near Jude's; first time I've ever seen one there.
Lavenders_Blue
I'm still doing plenty of walking and doing Zumba once a week. Although now the dark nights are drawing in, there's not so many hours in the day to get out with the dog and it's also becoming more difficult to drag myself out to a Zumba class in the evening when I could be cosied up with a woolly blanket and a glass of wine instead I shall have to be disciplined with myself over the next few months! Reikiranf
Get the dvd set and do Zumba indoors! Also there are loads of workouts of every imaginable type on Youtube if you like variety
Lavenders_Blue
That should give hubby something to chuckle at - watch out for me on You've Been Framed
The Dogmother
I don't really 'get' exercise DVDs, but if you're looking on YouTube, the Tracy Anderson ones are good; there is a whole series for different body areas.
Reikiranf
They have their place Dogmother, if like me you're too mean/embarrassed to join a gym Tiffany Rothe on Youtube is also good and targets specific areas.
The Dogmother
I don't deny that they are good, I just lack the time and motivation to do them at home when there are a million and one chores to be done. I set aside one hour a week, sometimes an extra 40 minutes on another day if I can get away, and attend circuit training or the gym. We are lucky in that our local sports centre is very reasonably priced and does brill deals for single parent families
Reikiranf
That's good I'm the opposite, I find that I can exercise indoors a minimum of 5 days a week but wouldn't make the effort if I had to leave the house, plus an hours exercise at the gym would use up at least 2 hours for me if I take into account travel and chatting time
Seagazer
Well done Reiki on the weight loss, I've been dipping in and out of exercising, currently just getting back into it. I need to get back into WW online as I find it really helps to jot down what I'm eating, stops me pigging out.
Reikiranf
I'm still doing the Nutracheck, www.myfitnesspal.com is similar and free! But I like NC and take up membership offers when they have them, so I've probably paid less than a pound a week and I'm paid up until 2014! I figure that once I've lost the weight I'll need help keeping it off
lillybettybabs
Well how did we all do? i have managed to maintain my boxers arms and rubgy players legs but my canckles have slimmed down nicely so i now have nice ankles and carves. The rest went a bit Pete Tong though
Ziggy
Just discovered this thread (took a while, I know!!) and was wondering whether there will be a 'fit for 2013' follow up... I could do with getting a bit fitter (and slimmer) and I'd happily join a thread to keep me motivated and offer encouragement... For once, I didn't wait till early January to step on the scales and panic!! I started exercising and watching what I eat (not quite dieting, just being sensible) roughly ten days ago... I call it 'Xmas damage limitation'...
The Dogmother
We've had a series of work lunches, so that hasn't helped my waistline I didn't make it to the gym on Wednesday evening for my customary 40 minutes while waiting for Rosie... just too much to do at the moment.
