Poorly! Gallbladder **Am home

Recommended Posts

So glad you have got this news - you've been through enough pain and discomfort, and the keyhole procedure will sort it out for you. I had keyhole surgery myself a few years ago and found it very easy - I forgot I'd had it most of the time; just a bit of indigestion due to being 'inflated' during the procedure.

Best of luck with it Emma

That's good news. You will have 3 little scars and no more pain from the pesky gallbladder. Had mine out in 2004 and I can't say I have noticed any difference in not having a gallbladder apart from a very low tolerance to alcohol. I rarely have more than 1 glass of something a week. Might be nothing at all to do with the lack of gallbladder tho, just advancing age

Hope they get you in quickly

The alcohol thing won't bother me - as I always had quite minimal amounts of alcohol before. Now I have none. I can't say I've missed it at all.

My friend in the village shop - says that she has to eat little & often since her op. As her bile just constantly drips into her stomach & she gets bloating throughout the day.

Won't be much left to take out of me soon.Already had tonsils, appendix & soon gallbladder. Supose the only other useless bit left in me would be my spleen. Heck!

Had a lovely weekend with my family coming over. My sister, dad & nephew just came for Saturday. Mum came Thursday & went back today. Have loved having her here. She enjoyed my craft group. Got totally hooked on patchwork & applique. Oh & has booked to come & stay with us again next month for my next craft group! She will come & stay before if I go in for surgery before then. We both sat & knit a frilly & bobbly scarf on Sunday. All my family met Sid - the old fella who lives in a caravan.

Dad was really quiet when he visited. Think he is still really worried about me. He wasn't himself. Sister also very huggy with me. Secretly worried I would say. Nephew ( 2 and a half )just wanted to play play dough with me all afternoon & my niece ( 3 months) had snuggles from me & cried a lot.

Had a good day today - but feel I've done to much. I drove to Aberaeron as it was a lovely sunny day. But on the way there, the sea mist came in & dropped like a fog. So had a very foggy day there. Ahh well was nice to hear the seagulls & smell the sea air & walk. I got 3 books from the 2nd hand book shop & a few bits from the shops there.

I'm exhausted a bit tonight though.

My friend in the village shop who has had her gallbladder out, had some pain today. She says she now has to eat little & often as the bile drips constantly into the stomach & she gets bloating & stomach ache / pain. Can anyone confirm this side effect? :anxious:

Nothing like this for me either and my op was 8 years ago. I eat normally. I wonder if her problem is maybe IBS or something and she is assuming the lack of gallbladder is causing it?

Honestly, you will feel like a new woman - a few days of discomfort but 5-7 days after the op you will feel pretty good and within 2 weeks you will be transformed. The discomfort is nothing compared to the gallstones pain. The day after the op I had a fair bit of stomach pain but they blow you up with air to get access to your bits and that takes a while to go down.

The wounds are nothing. I took my dressings off with trepidation and then thought "is that it". They are really little.

All the best- please try not to worry too much x

I want to be full of health & fit before I'm 40. Three years to go! Yes I could have an Easter egg! however, after getting used to not having chocolate & similar stuff - I've got used to it. I think it will feel wierd to think I can have it again. I think I'll be afraid & think twice! I haven't really missed it. I did at first, but now no. It will be nice to think yes I can have a treat if I want. Hubby will be here all week after my op which is good. I won't like not being able to do the chooks etc.

Can you drive straight after or was it a few weeks?

Glad you have a date Emma. I drove this morning and it finished me off for the day but my op wasn't gall bladder. I'm still a bit sore where the keyhole scars are but two of them were infected.

However, my friend had her gallbladder out and she was tap dancing after two weeks.

Best wishes for your op.

Not been myself today - not really with it. No pain - just sort of ugh! Although not sick, have had yukky taste in my mouth for 2 days. Will be glad when this is all over - although extremely nervous! Janty - do you think I'll be ok to carry a heavyish bag of posting after a week to the village post office? As I'll have to do all the work again then. :anxious:

Sorry to hijack the question. Can't remember exactly when the stitches come out but I certainly wouldn't risk carrying anything too heavy after just a week. The op doesn't directly affect any particular "carrying muscles" but there is healing to go on inside and you might cause some damage if you overdo things.

I was signed off work for 2 weeks. I pretty much rested and let myself be pampered for the first week and then got back to normal during the 2nd week. The anaesthetic has to get out of your system so you will feel pretty exhausted for the first week anyway. Drink plenty to help flush it out. (I think i read somewhere that it takes a week to get the system clear for each hour of anaesthetic)

Once you have stopped feeling spaced out you should be fine to drive - with my insurance hat on you should ask the doctor when you can drive as you won't be covered if you have driven against medical advice.
