Why I love this forum but also why it can be expensive....

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I joined up last year when are 2 chickens arrived...so much great advice and help then as time has gone on I have noticed that occasionally I check the chicken section but the nesting UK section has become my lifeline...

I work at home with children all day..the only adult conversation being when parents pick up there children ...so on here I have found a whole new world...happy, sad even heartbreaking but so much sympathy and support. I log on and feel intouch with so many people

BUT I now think this forum is eating my bank account...

so far I have purchased

a variety of chicken recommended items - including the Go, 2 chickens and WIR

a woolen duvet - never heard of until I visited here but what a wonderfuil nights sleep !!!

a £5.99 raincoat - mans medium size fits well and looking forward to being warm enough to wear

2 pairs of childrens snowboats - very handy at present

By Easter and summer holidays are planned on recommendations from here

These are the things I can remember....so thank you out there..I am just about to try by a recipie from the food section....I just never realised that buying 2 chickens would effect so many other parts of my life.... :D

I agree it is great (but expensive) although I think it is lovely buying things on genuine recommendations without any hidden agendas. I am responsible for your £5.99 coat :D

You can usually find someone to help with most problems as there are people from all walks of life represented. Also I think people genuinely want to help. Also as it is anonymous it is not like plastering your problems all over facebook for the world and his wife to see.

I have pictures in my head of the people on the forum but I bet they are nothing like I imagine!

I have to agree - and I only really realised it this week what a wonderful lot all of us chicken keepers are.

It is good to have some annonimity (sp?), and the support from people you don't really know at all is wonderful and genuine.

This week I learned to open up a little and that a problem shared is sometimes a problem halved and that you are not the only person in the same boat. Your experiences can be shared without judgement and often with compassion and understanding.

I love hearing about everyones chickens, and I was very good as I am on a no spend drive at the moment and didn't get the coat and the boots :( but I did manage to "need a new cube and WIR for christmas  but I love it and would not be without it now)

I have grown in my posting, and am not so much of a lurker as I was before, probably as I feel a little more confident in my chicken keeping, but also as I come to understand that a quick "thank you" or "sorry to hear your news" is appreciated by the poster.

Anyway rambled enough now... its becoming expensive to me as I am supposed to be working and keep coming on here to check the latest news

Over the years I've bought many a thing recommended on here, always handy if someone has first hand experience of a product.

I think it is a very nice forum, not that I'm on many, but it is very friendly and there is always someone who knows something that you want to know about :D

Some lovely posts already :clap::clap::clap:

 What can I add?

I love it here

I enjoyed getting the bargain waterproof coats

I don't begrudge one single penny of the money I have spent since becoming an Eglu owner/chook owner almost 6 years ago (wow! Tempus Fugit!!) and the advice on here has saved me an absolute fortune in avoiding vets bills for advice/ meal ideas to keep me sane; laughter that is cheaper than therapy; "meeting" people who I can not only related to, but who surprise me with their strength of character, caring, thoughtfulness and friendship.

Oh and I've also saved a fortune by being in the right place at the right time for a 2nd hand eglu or two

Cheques and balances methinks :shh:

I love the forum. I have had great advice and met some lovely people. I have also bought (on recommendation) a blender, a pressure cooker, a snow shovel, yaktrax,......along with various chicken lotions and potions  , missed out on the jacket :( I have also suggested to OH the Radflex :D Everyone is kind and helpful. DD looks at Mumsnet and I think I would be frightened to post there as some people are so unkind (maybe the mums are irritated due to lack of sleep or something  )

Thanks to the Mods too

Mumsnet is another credit card disaster area especially the style and beauty section, I've been introduced to lots of new products and on- line shops by reading posts on there, mind you nothing for chickens so not as good as Omlet  .

Well I just got two apple trees from Aldi, talked myself out of paying £25 for 1, on Tuesday.

Saw the post on here for them for £3.99 each.

What a bargain

Thanks to the forum.

My husband is complaining though as I spend far too much time and he keeps wanting to know who I am talking to, what I am typing, why am I laughing.

He threatened to post last night, I told him he can't he has to be "approved" will have to send Omlet a note to give them his details
