Make up

Recommended Posts

ok, i am now going to add a complication in.... but in the mean time i will try bb cream.

I am slowly trying to change the things i use on me and in my house to chemical free natural stuff as much as possible.. Now i think this will be possible for quite a lot. But then i started to think about makeup. whats in it??? whats the alternative.....

ok, i am asking a lot now.... it may be the one part i have to compromise in.

I used to use Beauty Without Cruelty products but then my local wholefood shop stopped selling it and changed to a German manufactured range instead. I was able to find some online for a while but it proved difficult. I fell out with Bodyshop a long time ago and so now I use Avon as they say they don't test on animals etc. (they don't put much on their packaging but if you ask the agent they have printed details)

I stopped using foundation in my twenties and only use an under eye cover as I have very dark skin around my eyes and lipstick......I am never seen without my lipstick! If I'm going out somewhere then I might use some soft eye pencil. I'm much happier not having anything on my skin apart from moisturiser but have reasonable skin and am happy with it.........as I've grown older I just tend to think that if others don't like it then they don't have to look!:lol:

its the chemicals that are my issue. I hadnt realised until i started looking how many there are and who knows what they are doing to us. I rarely use make up , but do need to scrub up occasionally (promoting my husbands studio in a couple of weeks to a load of men who are used to taking pictures of naked models, so thought i ought to play along with it for one day!!)

i know a lot have things have changed with testing on animals and not so many do now.

I'd just stick with lip gloss and a smile! - you'll feel uncomfortable with using more than you're used to unless you've had enough time to get used to it? I don't use chemicals to clean the house with and am not happy slapping them on my face either, the one I compromise with is the eye cover - people ask me what's happened in shocked tones if I go without it!!

The bb cream sounds great, but I don't use any garnier l'oreal products because of their animal testing policy. The body shop are out for me too because of their links to them.

I love all of teh Liz Earle products (also a good natural range) and they have started doing a foundation style make up range. I had some samples a little while ago and they were excellent. I believe they use only natural products and they smell lovely.

I've used the Liz Earle skincare before but haven't tried the foundation- didn't know they did make up!

Is it very light? I normally only wear a tinted moisturiser because I don't like the feel of anything heavy on my skin... makes me feel claustrophobic!

Mmm the Liz Earle one is light and is more of a tinted moisturiser than a heavy foundation. Also has a good SPF in it which i liked. I'm sure they'd send you a sample if you asked - their customer service is fantastic.

Thanks Rachel, it sound like just the thing! I just want a bit of a healthy glow rather than coverage...

I've had look at the website which says that you can get samples with your first order! :D

Another huge Garnier BB fan here.

I've never worn a huge amount of make-up, but have been experimenting quite a bit over the past couple of years, be wary of spending a lot of money on a foundation even if you are colour matched by a counter as you really need to try out a sample first for a few days. Oily skin can cause foundation to oxidise (turn orange) and some others can go patchy after a couple of hours. MAC got my colour totally wrong.

Liz Earle will happily give out small samples of the 3 colours of their tinted moisturiser (they are at some John Lewis's and have a few of their own stores), but my skin was too oily for it and it just looked greasy on me.

In terms of cheaper brands, I've heard good things about Revlon.

Like Cinnamon - big make up fan here. By far the best product I have ever used (my desert island product) is YSL Touché Éclat pen concealer. It's not a foundation but is fantastic at hiding dark circles and highlighting your face. When I first wore it my Sister said I looked younger (she didn't know I was wearing it).

It is expensive but mine lasted me way over 12 months if you use it wisely.

I use Max Factor foundation and mascara. Good stuff.

I can't stand the feel of foundation on my skin, so use Laura Mercier minerals. Use as a powder but covers like a foundation, I have a few broken veins on my face and this covers them.

John Lewis is where you can buy it and the assistant showed me how to use the product and correct shade for my skin.

my daughter in law swears by it, and has got me hooked.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your posh do.
