The Dogmother
I tried the Aldi moisturiser but it didn't suit my skin, but I love their concealer as it comes in an olive-type colour, and I also love their anti-wrinkle eye thing called Wrinkle Stop - apparently it tested better than the other leading brands. welovemarmite
ok, i am now going to add a complication in.... but in the mean time i will try bb cream. I am slowly trying to change the things i use on me and in my house to chemical free natural stuff as much as possible.. Now i think this will be possible for quite a lot. But then i started to think about makeup. whats in it??? whats the alternative..... ok, i am asking a lot now.... it may be the one part i have to compromise in. Lesley
I used to use Beauty Without Cruelty products but then my local wholefood shop stopped selling it and changed to a German manufactured range instead. I was able to find some online for a while but it proved difficult. I fell out with Bodyshop a long time ago and so now I use Avon as they say they don't test on animals etc. (they don't put much on their packaging but if you ask the agent they have printed details) I stopped using foundation in my twenties and only use an under eye cover as I have very dark skin around my eyes and lipstick......I am never seen without my lipstick! If I'm going out somewhere then I might use some soft eye pencil. I'm much happier not having anything on my skin apart from moisturiser but have reasonable skin and am happy with it.........as I've grown older I just tend to think that if others don't like it then they don't have to look! welovemarmite
its the chemicals that are my issue. I hadnt realised until i started looking how many there are and who knows what they are doing to us. I rarely use make up , but do need to scrub up occasionally (promoting my husbands studio in a couple of weeks to a load of men who are used to taking pictures of naked models, so thought i ought to play along with it for one day!!) i know a lot have things have changed with testing on animals and not so many do now. I'd just stick with lip gloss and a smile! - you'll feel uncomfortable with using more than you're used to unless you've had enough time to get used to it? I don't use chemicals to clean the house with and am not happy slapping them on my face either, the one I compromise with is the eye cover - people ask me what's happened in shocked tones if I go without it!! ClaireG
Of your looking for a lovely skin care range i can highly recommend the ones from here. http://www.organicsurge.com/ Make up wise i use eye shadows from here and have used there foundation before but found mineral foundation isn't really for me. http://www.lilylolo.co.uk/
rachel19
I love all of teh Liz Earle products (also a good natural range) and they have started doing a foundation style make up range. I had some samples a little while ago and they were excellent. I believe they use only natural products and they smell lovely.

Groovychook
The bb cream sounds great, but I don't use any garnier l'oreal products because of their animal testing policy. The body shop are out for me too because of their links to them. I love all of teh Liz Earle products (also a good natural range) and they have started doing a foundation style make up range. I had some samples a little while ago and they were excellent. I believe they use only natural products and they smell lovely. I've used the Liz Earle skincare before but haven't tried the foundation- didn't know they did make up! Is it very light? I normally only wear a tinted moisturiser because I don't like the feel of anything heavy on my skin... makes me feel claustrophobic! welovemarmite
ok bb cream off the list now you said about animal testing...
rachel19
Mmm the Liz Earle one is light and is more of a tinted moisturiser than a heavy foundation. Also has a good SPF in it which i liked. I'm sure they'd send you a sample if you asked - their customer service is fantastic.

I just want a bit of a healthy glow rather than coverage... I've had look at the website which says that you can get samples with your first order! yvonne
Another huge Garnier BB fan here. I've never worn a huge amount of make-up, but have been experimenting quite a bit over the past couple of years, be wary of spending a lot of money on a foundation even if you are colour matched by a counter as you really need to try out a sample first for a few days. Oily skin can cause foundation to oxidise (turn orange) and some others can go patchy after a couple of hours. MAC got my colour totally wrong. Liz Earle will happily give out small samples of the 3 colours of their tinted moisturiser (they are at some John Lewis's and have a few of their own stores), but my skin was too oily for it and it just looked greasy on me. In terms of cheaper brands, I've heard good things about Revlon.
welovemarmite
After all that I started researching mineral make up. I have just ordered a sample pack from earthnicity. Will see how they go! thanks all
Cinnamon
If you have a Bareminerals outlet near to you, they are doing 'make-unders' & giving samples to take home. I did this a couple of weeks ago & it was very good, but still not as good as the BB Cream.
Lavenders_Blue
I just had a peek at the ingredients list for the Liz Earle foundation - lots of chemicals in there! You might be better off looking at some specialist natural skincare/makeup retailers such as Beauty Naturals or There Must Be A Better Way. chelsea
Like Cinnamon - big make up fan here. By far the best product I have ever used (my desert island product) is YSL Touché Éclat pen concealer. It's not a foundation but is fantastic at hiding dark circles and highlighting your face. When I first wore it my Sister said I looked younger (she didn't know I was wearing it). It is expensive but mine lasted me way over 12 months if you use it wisely. I use Max Factor foundation and mascara. Good stuff.
The Dogmother
I received my BB samples today... three in total... all 'light' If anyone has some in medium or dark and would like to swap, please PM me.
welovemarmite
mine arrived today, all light too, but that is fine as i am light. I have it on, but am concered about someones earlier comment about animal testing and garnier. whats the story with this? My samples of some other mineral makeup arrived as well, so will try that out next.
The Dogmother
Might try out a wee bit to get an idea of the effect, but it will look odd. I don't wear foundation as a rule, just for special occasions.
welovemarmite
snap. i have had it on for a few hours and it feels sticky to me. Not sure i like it.
Cinnamon
It does need a touch of powder on top of it to 'set' it,as most foundations do
Margaret
I can't stand the feel of foundation on my skin, so use Laura Mercier minerals. Use as a powder but covers like a foundation, I have a few broken veins on my face and this covers them. John Lewis is where you can buy it and the assistant showed me how to use the product and correct shade for my skin. my daughter in law swears by it, and has got me hooked. Hope this helps, and enjoy your posh do.
welovemarmite
i had powder on it ! I have the mineral powder foundation to try as well.. I will keep the other two samples of the BB just in case, handy quick emergency if i dont mind how it feels, but if i was to get hot, i would feel like i was a melting candle.
