Lesley
It's great to hear what you're picking Martin - you haven't had that plot 5 minutes Yesterday I picked..... 1 carrot a bowlful of peas - Lauren and Jake picked theirs actually. raspberries and a few strawberries broad beans potatoes my plots are only a bit older than yours Martin, so I'm very pleased with what we're picking. I'm disappointed that i won't have any pumpkin though - i was growing Hundredweight ready for Halloween Slugs I've bought nematodes but don't know if it is too late to make a difference now?. They've eaten everything they can and are leaving the rest alone I can't use my beer slug traps because of the bees.
Christian
Yes Lesley, use the nematodes now! They will break at least 1 cycle of slugs! Can you still get pumpkins plants in your local garden centre? Mine still have a couple left. Not that I would buy plants, grow them all from seed more like!
Lesley
I'll go and look today Christain - I have to go past Homebase and they usually have veg. plants - probably all sold out now though I'll also try to find time to use the nematodes as well then - I suppose I'll have less slugs eventually. Christian
You should have less slugs Lesley, as the nematodes kill the baby slugs and therefore less breeding! I used it in my last garden as it does work. REALLY lucky here as don't seem to have many. Only 2 carrots (your seeds) and a french bean plant have been eaten this year!! Good luck! Lesley
mmmmmmmmmm - I've grown peas for years......... and I've cooked very few We always just eat them in the garden, much more fun. The same goes for odd strawberries and at the moment I'm eating blueberries one at a time My runner beans are flowering but no beans yet. Helly Welly
Yesterday... a tub trug full of potatoes the last of my peas 12 beetroot 20 silverskin onions I'm off to the allotment again today for more spuds as i couldn't fit them all in my trike yesterday. Need to get rid of a few weeds too
Helly Welly
Today.. another tub trug of potatoes That's all the 1st earlies now, i'm off on my hols on Sunday so the 2nd earlies will have to wait until i get back. Not looking forward to the jungle of weeds i'll come back to. Holidays generally mean more work once i get back, sometimes i wonder why i bother Discovered today that someone has emptied both my water butt which had 200 litres of water and my IBC container which had 500 litres of water in it I think its stupid kids with nothing better to do but its really annoying. I know its not really all that important but even with all this rain it will take me ages to refill the IBC as we only have a small shed roof that drains into the IBC. (An IBC is one of those square containers in a metal cage that is normally used to hold orange juice ) It proves that we have a security problem on our site, i'm worried that next time they will cause some real damage

Next year I'm going to grow climbing squashes-hopefully they'll be out of reach of the slugs!

Cinnamon
Lots of Peas today. It was strange - some of the fattest pods only has teeny peas in & the smaller pods had big fat ones in They all taste good though & I am having to stop myself from nibbling them raw
