williamspencer98
Hello! I'm looking for chicken breeds to buy. I'm not really interested in best laying quality, I want pretty birds, and this may sound funny, but I really want to tame them! How many is better? I was thinking 2, 3 or 4? Large fowl breeds I'm interested in! Any reccomendations? I like the look of Salmon Faverolles. Will
Chortle Chook
Hello williamspencer98. Welcome to the Omlet forum I so know what you mean when you say "I'm not really interested in best laying quality, I want pretty birds" that was (still is) me. Pets (and pretty ones too) first and foremost I have not kept Faverolles but they are pretty and all posts on here have always said what lovely, gentle temperaments these chickens have. I expect some people who own Faverolles will be along to say more very shortly. Perhaps the first thing to decide is whether you want a few biggies (standard sized chooks) or more little uns (bantams). I have inbetweenies of these breeds: Silkies, Polands and Frizzles. All very sweet natured and pretty as pretty. Out of these three breeds the Frizzle (as a breed as opposed to other breeds with frizzle feathering) are rather hard to come by but so adorable looking - kinda tubby - and very sweet natured and friendly. Polands take a bit more looking after because of all their head feathering but both mine are real characters, ride on my shoulder like a pair of parrots and talk non stop to me. Silkies are the easiest of the three to come by and are cute, fluffy bumpkins but do need dry conditions (unless, like me, you are happy to sit with them on your lap using a hair dryer on days like today). The Omlet Breeds pageswill give you lots of info on the various breeds and lots of pictures to look at which may help you or hinder you as there are just so many One thing - I'd certainly recommend that you do not stock to your maximum at first as you are sure to want to expand and try other breeds
markAndCharlene
I can thoroughly recommend salmon faverolles. I love them to bits. Both the hens and cockerels are beautiful. They are generally friendly, although our cockerel doesnt seem to get on too well with my wife for some reason.

karlotta
Another vote for Favs! My Doris is my favourite of all my girls. I'm a bit desperate to find some bantam Favs too!
Cheeky Chooky
Hi Will, I'm afraid I can't recommend any LF as mine are all Bantams but I would say it's a good idea to get at least 3...or
sparkysmum
Another vote for Favs We love ours - gentle, sweet, kind - with all the other hens & people. Lays well too but her laying season is quite short. Can't go wrong with them. Beautiful hens.
