AJuff
I really have let myself go! Last year I did an audit of my life and found that I was happy and content in all areas of my life except with my weight and household mess. I tackled the home organisation well, drew up jolly jobs rota for kids, put everything away and worked slowly throughout the house. I have a weekly tailored cleaning schedule that works and wish I'd had that in place years ago. However with weight . . . I crept over my own personal upper limit of 10st, I am only 5ft 4". Shocked by that I have yo-yoed up and down and I am now within a breath of 11st! I am trying to be sensible, balanced, calm, proactive . . . small changes, introduce excercise, gradual weight loss . . . I try to stay at around 1700-1800 calories a day which has been easy to achieve until today. One choc croissant, a whole 200g chocolate Lindt bunny and a bowl of healthy veg soup has me at 1604calories, 90g of which is fat! So my question is . . is if I eat 1800 calories a day regardless of what percentage is fat will i still loose weight?
Patricia W
No you haven't - you are just human! AND it sounds as thought you've been very successful with your other resolutions. I recognise your pain about losing weight. I'd love to lose a couple of stone, but have yet to find the diet that works for more than a week. I know others on here HAVE been successful so I'm sure they'll have more to add. But concentrate on your achievements.
Gertie
Its wonderful to hear you are happy in so many other ways but sorry to hear you feel like that about your weight. You did well on the other points. Don't beat yourself up about the weight. Tomorrow is another day and you can start afresh! I don't know about calories, I think there are so many variables. I know what I do seems to keep me healthy & not too over weight. These are just my opinions though I'm a teacher so energtic job. I eat fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch with ham or cheese or chicken, spinach & tomato & no dressing, more fruit, fruit for any snacks and normally an ordinary tea such as pasta, rice dishes etc. weekends I eat anything I want. I'm 5ft 5 and same weight as you.
Seagazer
First of all well done on your achievements. I'm very disorganised with cleaning and get easily distracted. Try not to worry about the weight (I'm a similar weight and only an inch taller - I've been yoyoing up and down from 10 to nearly 11 stone this last year or so). It is hard to keep the weight going down, I'm definitely middle aged now so think it would be naturally harder anyway. I love food too so that also doesn't help. I've been trying not to get too fed up if I gain a little weight. I'm following WW and find that tracking points and my exercise does help to keep me nearly on track. Do you have a goal weight or a special occasion that you are trying to lose weight for? Perhaps if you try to always think of that when you go to eat something? I was trying to slim down for a summer holiday but I doubt we'll be going on one this year. I will use my wedding anniversary in September as something to aim for I think. Its not the end of the world, you can still lose the weight and you definitely haven't let yourself down. Its just a blip. Positive thinking. Sometimes we just need a kick up the bottom to get going again.
AJuff
Firstly I feel pressured as OH is extremely fit and his body is a temple. I'm not moaning but I work all week and only have weekends, possibly one night a week to get out on my bike, OH is off during the week. So if the weather is pants like it has been again this weekend, I don't get out whereas he can get out during the week as he has more opportunities and no kids to care for. So OH who I have to say is very supportive, puts pressure on me by expectations. I am regaining my fitness quite well and have found a friend to cycle with. I think cycling would be even easier if I didn't have quite so much weight to carry. I do yoga when I can. I'd love to fit into my beautiful Hobb linen jacket that I wear for choir again. I can't fasten the buttons now I'd like to be able to wear a shirt without a roll of fat hanging over my jeans, and yes my jeans (and skirts) are getting to feel uncomfortable. I have loads of clothes in my wardrobe that would fit if I lost even 1 stone. Goals - loose some pounds by the end of June for the Northern Rock Cyclone. fit into my choir jacket more comfortably by the end of July ready for the baroque charity concert. Thanks for your support, a bad day I think. Rubbish weather, OH away, work tomorrow etc . . .
Paola
Big well done for sorting your home and keeping on top of it Don't be too hard on yourself about your weight. We have all been there!! I find that unless I am mentally in the zone to loose weight I do not have the will power to do it I have never been any good at doing exercise either I am currently using a free website www.myfitnesspal.com Its really working for me. I use the app on my iPhone so its always with me. It works out how many calories that you need per day to get to the weight that you want. You put everything you eat on your planner and it works it all out for you. You can also link up with friends who are doing the same, so you are not on your own doing it. I am currently having 1200 calories per day. I have only been on it 3 days and managed to loose 2.5lbs already I do go over a little at times but its still working
AJuff
Wow! Well done Paola, that's an excellent start. I logged onto my fitness pal and realised that I had been on it before but hadn't entered anything. I have added in all my weight, measurements and goals. I'm set up all ready for tomorrow. Thank you so much I'm actually looking forward to making a few changes. Look me up! Same user name AJuff.
Ain't Nobody Here
I find that unless I am mentally in the zone to loose weight I do not have the will power to do it That's exactly what I'm like! AJuff, I can sympathises with the "fit husband" scenario . Mine runs and cycles and is the same size and weight as when we were first married. I, on the other hand, have crept up to over 12 stone (I'm 5ft 6in so really shouldn't be that weight ) but after nearly 6 weeks I've lost nearly a stone . I don't count calories but watch the fat content of things I eat and have cut out all bread, cake, biscuits, crisps, butter and chocolate/sweets. I do have a little treat when I want to though but I'm finding I don't often want to so am taking advantage of that! I'm eating a normal meal at night but eat off a shallow soup plate rather than a dinner plate. I do excercise quite a bit anyway but am trying to fit in as many step/zumba classes as I can in a week. Things I snack on when I feel hungry between meals are nuts, dried fruit, toasted potato farl, low fat cereal bars (Alpen do a nice one), celery with peanut butter or Philly, Crackerbread with Philly. Sometimes fruit just isn't right when you need something to munch on . Good luck, it sounds like you're ready to be "in the zone" .
Daphne
Another idea could be to buy some rollers, if you have enough space, so you could cycle indoors even in the wet? We have some in the conservatory (good job I'm used to bikes everywhere ) and I find it quite easy to hop on and do 20-30 mins whilst watching something on TV/DVD as its so boring otherwise. By doing little and often its not a chore (if I'm not in the mood I don't do it, but at the mo I'm doing 3-5 sessions a week as the weather is so bad) and I can make it as easy or difficult as I like. Its also easy to fit into the rest of my life
chickencam
I feel your pain, you have done well in other areas, this is just something that hasn't happened yet, but will. I am 5'3" and the same weight as you, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view my OH is a chubby chap, although he has lost some weight recently with being more active. He brings unhealthy food into the house and loves takeaways whereas I love healthy food as a rule but can't always find the will power to cook it. I need to get myself sorted out and lose a stone or 2 because I don't want ot get more middleaged and more fat because this will start to have an effect on my mobility and health. Good luck with your plans and I will try to get myself motivated too.
AJuff
I had a 'set of rollers' as you call them . . . when I started hanging clothes off the cycle trainer DH put it away in the garage. I never ever use it now as I hate our cold. grey drafty garage. OH has his out there all linked up to a computer with heart monitor etc. he cycles the virtual tour de France!!! My fitness Pal is working out really well for me, it's with me on my iphone all day. I didn't snack at all today as it would have been recorded in my food diary I fitted in a brief 30 minute walk to and from work at lunch time, not long I know but DH is away and I have a sick DS at home alone. I am feeling empowered, thank you everyone.
AJuff
AN update for you all. My Fitness Pal recommended by Paola is fabulous. I love having the app on my phone and at my finger tips 24hrs a day. It is the first 'diet' I have ever continued with past a week. Three weeks in I have lost 6lbs and I am feeling amazingly healthy and motivated. I have lost 2.5" off my waist and 1" off my hips. It sounds rather silly to say this but I've found a balance in my life between food, treats and excercise. I can eat whatever I want and stay under calories by excercising. I have set up my bike in the garage and OH has told me to stay in fat burning mode by using my heart monitor. I bring my laptop in with me to watch bbc iplayer to stave off the boredom. It works! I walk more with DD1 and we have decided to complete our long distance walk we started last year. OH bought me a new bike today, a Trek women's specific road bike. It's lovely and so comfortable to ride. Even went out in the rain tonight to try it out (I also needed to earn a few extra calories to eat as I wanted to eat some quality street chocs I was given at the weekend.) Added bonus is I'm sleeping so much better too. Thank you Paola for starting back on my fit for life journey.
