Ivory sad news.

Recommended Posts

We started with two Omlet chooks and within a week we had two more Ivory and Latte. Ivory is a Merrydale Sussex. She is the only hybrid I've had that goes broody.

This year she has had a couple of periods of broodyness. A week ago she stopped being broody but the last couple of days she did not seem as lively as the others, I wondered if this was due to her broodyness and thought she would improve as she got back to eating normally but I when I got back this afternoon she was in the nestbox again and did not look right. I said to OH should I bring her indoors he said no so I went to check on her a few minutes later and she had died.

I know she had had a good life, she must have been over four and half years old and had a much longer life than the two Omlet girls but the end was so quick.

I will miss her stroppy broodyness :(

Thank you all for your lovely comments.

Ivory was a good age for a hybrid and she seemed to enjoy life, she laid us 622 eggs, always long and thin :D

She is the only experience I have of a broody chook she liked to go broody every so often and was very vocal when you made her move :D:D I will quite miss her pancake like form in the nestbox pinching everyone elses eggs :D
