Nicola O
This afternoon I found Lily dead in the nest. She had been a little quiet the last couple of days but checked her over and found nothing obvious, but when I lifted her out I noticed that her comb, wattles and even her face were really blue so I am guessing it was her heart. She was my one and only reliable broody who hatched and reared Gladys and my lovely Boris last year and she will be missed

Luvachicken
Sorry to hear about Lily. My little Phoebe was dead in the nest the other day too. It is sad for us but we have to think that at least they didn't suffer too much.

gongladosh
poor girl, RIP Lily. My Chickpea died in a similar way recently - I suspected an age-related heart attack, which I guess all things considered is probably the best way a hen can go.
