beccauk
Hi I have been looking for a odour sanitiser and have been looking at nettex ground santising powder and also biolink biodry absorbant powder im unsure which would be ideal for an outside run which is meshed with pine woodchip on the ground, and which one people would recommend you get more benifits from as i read the biolink helps with worms, larve etc. and how often it would need to be applied into the run ? any advice welcome becca
Mrs_B
I find using Stalosan really good - I sprinkle it everywhere on the woodchip/dust bath, hoe the woodchip over and over and reapply. I also spray mite powder into the corners of the run itself and on the wooden accessories inside just to make sure! I do this weekly x
beccauk
thanks for your reply i was going to order it from the omlet shop as need a couple of other things as we dont have a poulty shop local to us, but i do make a point of buying our pellets from the lady who i brought my chickens from as like to keep family businesses going, she just doesnt sell sanitisers. becca
good_egg
I wondered the same thing and read a few posts - I came to the conclusion more people used better in run and bio dry in house but could have made that up so I will be interested to see answers. Nettex helps with worms so I got that and it smells quite nice and almost minty. I bought the small packet first but have used that up so would go for the tub. I use it in the cube and extension, previously on wood up and now on easibed (which I am much preferring)
shemybelle
I bought Net tex and wasn't impressed. It was all stuck together in a hard mass. I had to use a knife to break it up. I'm not sure if I was maybe just unlucky with that tub, but I'll be buying Stalosan next time. Lx
mimi5
I've got a tub of the net-tex sanitisier, it's a lovely and light powder with a scoop and smells really fresh. But it is the first ground sanitisier product I've used. I've used it on the grass, in the run and in the soil patch the pekins use as their dustbath. mollyripkim
I use Stalostan too, sprinkle and rake it in once a week. The one down side is one white silkie likes to dust bath in it so often has a pink tinge to her.

The Dogmother
I use either the Nettex ground sanitiser or BioDry, both do a really good job. I have a tub of the former at the moment.
Lavenders_Blue
I am using Stalosan at the moment. I think that it's really designed to be used in a covered run not an open run (please correct me if I am wrong) so I try to use it when there are a few dry days for it to work properly - not much chance of that at the moment though I might give Nettex a go next time, as I think that is okay to use in an open run? sadietoo
I use Stalosan too..and have found it very effective. It also worked well on a patch of grass that our dog used to regularly use..(IYKWIM ) really no smell at all...I would recommend!
karencopas
hi, i'm new to keeping chickens we've had ours for 4 wks now and at the risk of sounding a bit dim what is ground sanitiser and why do you use it? when we bought our chooks we bought the "basics" for getting started-food, corn, bedding, grit, oyster shell but that's about it. the man was very helpful and did say there was more we could buy but to start with the essentials. the girls were on growers mash but are laying now well definately 2 are so am mixing in layers pelletts. i have definately noticed more flies in the garden and after reading on the forum i have ordered a red top fly trap, all advice very welcomed and thankyou in advance
fluffy chick
Just ordered another huge tub of stalasan - another fan here! I use it in the run and under aubiose in the droppings trays. It's great stuff. at the risk of sounding a bit dim what is ground sanitiser and why do you use it? when we bought our chooks we bought the "basics" for getting started-food, corn, bedding, grit, oyster shell but that's about it. the man was very helpful and did say there was more we could buy but to start with the essentials. If you're birds are on the same patch of earth / woodchip etc for any length of time the ground can become 'chicken sick' with the build up of poo and they can pick up some illnesses and parasites. Ground sanitiser helps to kill off bugs etc, dead easy to use, I get mine off ebay usually.
merlina
I haven't used a ground sanitiser on the assumption that none of them were organic Does anyone know differently? (I've relied on moving the hens around instead)
The Dogmother
Try using garden lime if you want something organic.
