lillybettybabs
One of my little darlings has just eaten a grass snake - I'm just so shocked at her blood lust and slight sick too!

Cheeky Chooky
Poor little grass snake Bet your hen's pleased with herself though I remember seeing one of my RIR girls (that I had a few years back) wolf down a mouse in one

lillybettybabs
Pure evil, she threw it around until it was dead then swallowed it whole - I must have a nest somewhere.
Leeloo
When I saw the subject, I thought it was going to be the other way around! I wasn't sure what short of a python could eat a hen! I found a black racer behind my Eglu last week. It froze when I approached. I had already let the chickens out and they came over to see what I was doing and chased it around. Racers are fast, though, so it got away! I found evidence of a broken egg in the poop tray so I'm not sure if the snake got in and ate it or my OCD hen broke it rolling it into the nest box and then she ate it. One hen lays in the back of the Eglu on the roosting bars and the other likes to roll it into the nest box for some reason! I hope it wasn't the snake because I'll freak if I open up the Eglu and find it in there!!
auntielizzie
I opened this post with some trepidation I thought I was going to see something unpleasant involving a Snake eating a Hen

Chicken deficient
If it makes you feel any better, I know someone whose snake tried to eat their dog . It had got as far as the shoulders by the time he managed to intervene. Both were fine. It was a Weimaraner by the way!

hopingforchickens
I have thoughts of breaking open an egg and finding a dead snake in it. one of mine ate a mouse once that had snuck into the corn box (lesson learned on securing the lid ), I'd scooped up a cupful of corn only to look down and see a mouse in there, the mouse thought he'd make a bid for freedom and jump out - straight into the open beak of one of my chooks. Next day we had a double yolker, I was a bit scared to crack it incase there was a tail in it! I too thought a snake had eaten a hen when I read this
The Dogmother
LBB made me laugh last night; she doesn't want to eat the eggs! Mine have eaten mice, voles, toads and the odd fledgling unlucky enough to end up on the lawn, but they haven't found snakes yet, nor the lizards which live under the woodpile. lillybettybabs
I have put the two days post snake eating eggs to one side , They have become rather large over the past week The nest is in my compost bin but sadly the hens know this and stand around it waiting for wiggly snackets i have a feeling they will gang up on the mother if she is around. I'm letting the out later in the evening now in hope that the snakes will have warmed up and moved on.
The Dogmother
I was wondering if they'd figured out their snack dispenser. Oh well, the protein will do them good!
